March 15[edit]

need a template[edit]

can anyone know a template or make a new date mathematics template that converts a days result entered say 878days 11hr 31min into 878.480 days. it can better if there is a template that directly returns this 3 decimal placed days value to be used in place of a normal date template say {{time interval|2021-04-09 07:42:41|2021-10-17 04:35:44|show=dhm}} that returns 190 days, 20 hours and 53 minutes. In that case it will return 190.870 days. it will be helpful for editing duration records at list of spaceflight records page currently i am using {{sum|533.230|{{age in days|2021-10-05 08:55:02||}}}}, but it updates only once a day, while i think users will have no problem if this portion updates continously.

thank you. Chinakpradhan (talk) 01:27, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Because it amused me to do it, I have hacked a lua module that does what I think you want
{{#invoke:Sandbox/trappist the monk/diff time|diff_time|2021-04-09 07:42:41|2021-10-17 04:35:44}} → 190.870
A simple template can be hacked to wrap that invoke.
Trappist the monk (talk) 18:40, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

thank you so much Trappist the monk. This contributed greatly to the page List of spaceflight records. Chinakpradhan (talk) 19:27, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Chinakpradhan: If you want to use the lua module, create a real template with real documentation to support it. Sandboxen hacks like the one that I wrote can and do go away without notice.
Trappist the monk (talk) 12:58, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Trappist the monk:, Can you make one. I don't know how to make a template. I just use template already made.Chinakpradhan (talk) 13:10, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

{{diff days}}:
{{diff days|2021-04-09 07:42:41|2021-10-17 04:35:44}} → 190.870
added another parameter |precision= which defaults to 3 accepts any positive integer:
{{diff days|2021-04-09 07:42:41|2021-10-17 04:35:44|precision=5}} → 190.87017
Template needs documentation. You can do that part; Template:diff days/doc
Trappist the monk (talk) 14:54, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Trappist the monk: from my side I have done what I think must be written at Template:Diff days/doc. If anything is left please tell me, so i can do it. And please tell how to show the documentation on Template: Diff days page. Chinakpradhan (talk) 17:58, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Here you go[edit]

Add this event, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandy_Hook_Elementary_School_shooting

to this page, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_attacks_related_to_secondary_schools — Preceding unsigned comment added by StryderBolts (talkcontribs) 05:05, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Is that an order? It sure sounds like one. Uporządnicki (talk) 12:40, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Elementary schools, by definition, are not secondary schools. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v a little blue Bori 05:10, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There are 18 other elementery schools listed StryderBolts (talk) 05:15, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
They probably should be removed, then. (Also, it's spelled elementary for future knowledge.) Skarmory (talk • contribs) 02:33, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

And change the title page name to, Attacks at Schools — Preceding unsigned comment added by StryderBolts (talkcontribs) 05:13, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There are 18 other elementary schools listed — Preceding unsigned comment added by StryderBolts (talkcontribs) 05:14, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@StryderBolts: Hi there! The best place to make a suggestion to update and/or rename an article (e.g. List of attacks related to secondary schools) is the article's talk page (e.g. Talk:List of attacks related to secondary schools). If you choose to do so, adding a "please" and "thank you" would go a long way. Thanks, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 04:32, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A11 vs A7[edit]

A11 is meant for articles that were obviously made up "without a credible claim of importance or significance." A7 is meant for articles that have "no indication of importance." So, shouldn't everything deletable under A11 also be deletable under A7? I.hate.spam.mail.here (talk | contributions) 05:58, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@I.hate.spam.mail.here: A7 also has to be in one of the categories of people, animals, organizations, web content, events. A11 is for discoveries/coinages/etc by the writer of the article or someone they know. As I understand it, this is more about like, new words, philosophies, theories, games, equations, inventions, etc. Things can lack credible claims of importance without being “made up” by the author or their friends. And also something can lack a credible claim of importance or significance and be in one of those five categories, without being something the writer of the article (or their friends) came up with. Requesting deletion of revdel tag[edit]

Request: Can you please remove the revdel tag at World War 3 (video game)? Thanks.— Preceding unsigned comment added by F1V8V10V6 (talkcontribs)

@F1V8V10V6: Since copyright violations can put Wikipedia in legal jeopardy, the tag must stand there until the nessesary revision deletions have been carried out by an Administrator. Victor Schmidt (talk) 12:40, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How to revert controversial move?[edit]

Transport for Wales was controversially moved to Transport for Wales (government agency) with no discussion. I would like it to be reverted so that the topic can be properly discussed and consensus reached. At the very least, it is not a government agency, it is a limited company owned by the Welsh government so there could be other names proposed assuming any actual move is needed. Can someone help me put things back to where they were? 10mmsocket (talk) 10:10, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

See the info at WP:RMUM - X201 (talk) 10:53, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Now sorted by another admin, but thanks I'll note that page for the future. 10mmsocket (talk) 11:00, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Similar dab pages[edit]

I have created a dab page for Bristol by-election. There are dab pages for Bristol West by-election, Bristol South East by-election and Bristol East by-election. Bristol by-election holds the by-elections in all the Bristol constituencies. Should it only hold by-elections in the Bristol constituency, with links in a See also section to the other three dab pages? Andysmith248 (talk) 10:59, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Personally I think it's fine that it's working as a dab for Bristol by-election as well as being top level for anyone not sure if they're after East, West or Central. One thing though, that list would be easier to read if it was grouped by constituency rather then being a year list that jumps from one constituency to another. - X201 (talk) 11:06, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • (edit conflict) I think it's more useful for readers to have a single dab page for all four (B, BW, BSE and BE) subjects. The other dab pages should be redirected to the single one. See Norwich by-election. Bazza (talk) 11:13, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@X201: and @Bazza 7: Thanks for your input. Andysmith248 (talk) 16:01, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

what inline tag is appropriate to tag raw, improper citations?[edit]

I see some citations (at Duomatic principle) that just have " author, title, [year], chapter, page " in raw text after the statement to be cited. Is there an inline tag to draw attention to this? I can't fix the formatting, as I don't have access to the cited material. thanks, skakEL 15:01, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think you're confusing citations and . . . well . . . citations. Wikipedia has citations that go at the end of the sentence, in the reference section, to say, basically, "this is where the information in this sentence came from." However, what you are seeing in that article aren't that. Take for example, this sentence: "The principle is named after one of the earlier judicial decisions in which it was recognised: Re Duomatic Ltd [1969] 2 Ch 365 . . .". There the sentence is discussing a legal case, and it is giving the proper name (or citation) for the legal case in the text. It's as if it is saying, "The principle is named after John Duomatic . . ." Only in this case it's not named after a person, it's named after a case. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 16:08, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Skakkle, for incomplete references like "Salomon v Salomon & Co Ltd [1897] AC 22, 57" there is a list of inline templates to use at Template:Citation needed#Incomplete_citations. {{Full citation needed}} may be what you want. However legal citations on Wikipedia often use a form incomprehensible to the rest of us. But {{cite court}} can help by providing a link to the case. Help[edit]

How do I make changes to a page for an organization I work for. It keeps blocking me from making any edits. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Benwagner17 (talkcontribs) 20:18, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Benwagner17 It looks like you are triggering an edit filter intended to prevent new users from adding information without citing any sources. You are also triggering an edit filter intended to prevent people from inserting spam and scam phone numbers.
That said, you should not "make changes to a page for an organization [you] work for." Please see the policy on editing with a conflict of interest and the policy on paid editing. You should use the article's talk page to make edit requests. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 20:29, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I want to be placed in wiki — Preceding unsigned comment added by Irishsuperman2k19 (talkcontribs) 22:37, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Irishsuperman2k19: Hello Irishsuperman! If you're not notable then that's not going to happen. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 22:48, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Irishsuperman2k19. "I want to be placed in wiki," is vague. Exactly how do you wish to be placed? Do you mean as the subject of an article, mentioned as a salient detail within a particular article, in a photo, as an editor, or something else? Knowing this could assist with an answer to your expressed desire. A response to you could also be helped with a question from you. Most kind regards,Hu Nhu (talk) 23:54, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Changes to my own bio[edit]

Hello, this is low priority so if you have other more important work, please tend to that. A few years ago I went to see if anyone on Wikipedia had written anything about me and, strangely, they had. But I noticed some things that were untrue. I set up my account here for the sole purpose of correcting these errors. A little time later the changes were undone by one "Tolly4Bolly", saying that the changes were "not constructive." I was still working then and didn't have time to get into any sort of argument with some troll but now I'm retired and have time to look into this, it bothers me that some one who knows nothing about me can have my own corrections undone. I know that it's not very important (you can read about me at the entry "Kurt Streit" -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurt_Streit --, not much there!) but I think I should be able to at least correct falsities if not add to the biography. After all, I'm done and my story is now complete (not like it's written on the Wikipedia page).

Any help would be appreciated but, again, super low urgency. Thanks, KurtKmst321 (talk) 22:49, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Kmst321: Hello Kmst! Since you say your are the subject of the article you have a WP:COI and it's highly advised you do not edit the article directly. Also, remember that having an article about you isn't always a good thing. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 22:55, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, KurtKmst321. Please have a look at WP:AUTOPROB for suggestions on what you can do about it. ColinFine (talk) 23:11, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Kmst321: Your only edit was [1]. Compare before and after your edit. It removed "External" from the "External links" heading, inserted a link directly in a heading where it doesn't belong, and changed a link to an unlinked partial url. I can understand why Tolly4bolly reverted it but saying "did not appear constructive" may have been too harsh. It looked more like good faith mistakes to me. Maybe you were just trying to change a dead link to a link which worked at the time. Both links are dead now. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:08, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I understand now. Kmst321 (talk) 13:04, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Colin. I'll look into it. Kmst321 (talk) 13:06, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
