Very Large Picture[edit]

When I look at Ahmadu Giade, the picture is very large. Poundland Oximeter (talk) 03:00, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The image is also a copyright violation. I've marked it for deletion at Commons, and removed it here on WP. It was missing size/thumb parameters, but those aren't the main problem. Acroterion (talk)

Translation IT->EN[edit]

Hi, I want to translate and original italian voice on IT Wiki on EN Wiki.

This is the original italian voice https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lovato_Electric and now I create a draft with the translation in english-> Draft:Lovato Electric

This is correct? Can you help me?

Thanks for your support, have a nice day Andreabelu (talk) 06:27, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Andreabelu, see Wikipedia:Translation. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:22, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Wording like "thus the company's beating heart took shape." is way to poetic for an en-WP article, btw. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:24, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Andreabelu: Is it a listed company? The language needs work. scope_creepTalk 11:09, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Andreabelu: some examples where the "language needs work" (which may or may not be in the Italian version, I have not checked - but those should not be in the English version):
  1. It is among the first companies in Italy to (have done X) Firstly, anyone who ever did X is "among the first" who ever did X. Secondly, even if they were first, or second, or tenth, is there a source independent of them that took notice of that fact? Otherwise, it’s just random trivia, phrased in a vaguely positive way.
  2. (...) ensure the availability of more than 20,000 products meeting the strictest international approval marks (...) Here’s an alternative wording: sells products without breaking the law. See the problem? In the first sentence, one is impressed at how competent the company is, and how high-quality their craftsmanship must be. In the second, one is worried (why do they have to specify that? did they use to break the law before?). But the informational content of the two is exactly the same.
  3. (...) is building a state-of-the-art laboratory (...) that will enable the company to reduce the time for new product development and gain additional know-how - as opposed to their competitor, who builds an outdated laboratory that will fail to help them?

Wikipedia translation[edit]

Please can I get the guidelines for translating articles ? Thanks and hope to hear from you soon io (talk) 10:53, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Iofori: What are you looking to translate? Are you doing it manually or by machine? When you translate you have to make it WP compliant. If it is a whole article, first thing you is put a trans tag in the talk page to take care of copyright. There is one on the top right of this page: [[1]]. When you do the translation, make sure its embedded in, that means, suitable categories and templates specific to this wikipedia. Links are redone so they point to the correct article on here. Check the spelling and copyedit it. Make sure the references are checked and they're properly formatted. Also look for curious turns of phrases which may be common on the source wikipedia but not in English. There is lots more but that will get you started. Please don't put a raw machine generated translation straight into the article. Not a good idea. If you need help, please drop a ping and I can have a look at it. scope_creepTalk 11:03, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Iofori There's some general guidance at WP:RFT about translation where the product article will be in English and at WP:TrU where you intend to take an article that's already in English and translate it for use elsewhere. Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:42, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Removing incorrect language links[edit]

Hi Folks!!, How do you remove an incorrect language link. For example on this Freytag-Loringhoven which points to [2] which is incorrect. The main Frydag article should point to [3] scope_creepTalk 11:03, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Interlanguage links these days are all on Wikidata. This is the WD item for Freytag-Loringhoven: d:Q471396; and this one for Frydag: d:Q48966458. Madeline (part of me) 12:20, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Madeline: How are you? I've now changed it. Hopefully it is ok. There is no edit summary on Wikidata for some reason. Thanks. scope_creepTalk 13:56, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I'm doing good! The lack of edit summaries appears strange to me too. phab:T43490 addressed this and was closed as It is now possible to add user summaries using the API, the next stage is to implement this in the UI. in 2013, and this discussion in 2015 showed support too but went nowhere. Really weird. Madeline (part of me) 14:37, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello sir

I have the file of the logo in my computer, but I just cant add it to the infobox company, what should I do? ThomastcClemêncio (talk) 11:26, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@ThomastcClemêncio Assuming this is about User:ThomastcClemêncio/sandbox, that draft will not be accepted as an article in it's current form, see WP:NORG.
Non-free images like logos can only be added to articles in article-space. Then you go to Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard and choose "Upload a non-free file". Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:58, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello sir, I was just practicing in my sandbox
I want to publish about a brand, and I was writting about it, what should I do to be accepted?
It was in my sandbox just to practice, I was aboyut no create a new article ThomastcClemêncio (talk) 12:03, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The first thing is to ensure that the brand met the criterion set on WP:GNG. If the brand is notable enough, it will not be accepted on Wikipedia. ✠ SunDawn ✠ (contact) 12:06, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it sure is notable weve been to the biggest fetivals, and are one of the biggest brands in the world and I will put references of journals and everything else ThomastcClemêncio (talk) 12:07, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@SunDawn "If the brand is notable enough, it will not be accepted on Wikipedia"... I think you misspoke. 71.228.112.175 (talk) 03:38, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also, Im one of the owners of the company and I would like to publish an article about the brand ThomastcClemêncio (talk) 12:06, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
ThomastcClemêncio, see WP:PAID and WP:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing. As it stands, your company is not notable. Don't waste your time on Wikipedia and come back when you have done something noteworthy. Sungodtemple (talk) 12:09, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Look I was just starting to write the article ThomastcClemêncio (talk) 12:11, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
What should I do to make it even more notable?

https://www.nortonaudio.com/news/news_4.pdf ThomastcClemêncio (talk) 12:15, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I would be appreciated if you help me, Im going to do it in the afternoon and then I can contact you if possible ThomastcClemêncio (talk) 12:10, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
We would be glad to help you out, but as Sungodtemple stated above, it is unwise to write about your own company per WP:PAID. And I also agree that your company is not notable enough for inclusion to Wikipedia yet. ✠ SunDawn ✠ (contact) 12:15, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh someone else should write about it? Its okay then ThomastcClemêncio (talk) 12:16, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As in, no one should write about it. For now. Sungodtemple (talk) 12:17, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
So when should someone write about it?
I dont know it just seems strange, if it has to be written by someone else ok I accept it
But more notable? Its literally one of the best audio companies
I will wait to see if someone writes something more elaborate about it. Thanks for everything ThomastcClemêncio (talk) 12:53, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
ThomastcClemêncio It is unsurprising that the owner of a company would think it's the best. 331dot (talk) 13:00, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thats true, but im not the only one, and if you search deeply you would see what I was talking about but ok no problem at all ThomastcClemêncio (talk) 13:04, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
ThomastcClemêncio, "Notability" has a special meaning on Wikipedia, which is not the same as in general use. Roughly, it means that enough has been published about the subject by sources unconnected with the subject to base an article on. (Wikipedia is not interested in what the subject of an article says or wants to say about themselves, or what their associates say about them. Wikipedia is only interested in what people who have no connection with the subject, and who have not been prompted or fed information on behalf of the subject, have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable sources.) Most companies (most people, most bands, most artists...) do not meet these criteria. Please read WP:No amount of editing can overcome a lack of notability. --ColinFine (talk) 21:31, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Bobadilla Estacion Village[edit]

Dear Sirs,

I have lived in Bobadilla Estacion for 20 years and, a couple of years ago or so, I noticed that our village had been removed from Wikipedia and replaced with only information about the actual train station, Estacion de Bobadilla. There is a village 3 kms from us called Bobadilla, "Bobadilla Pueblo" which has around 400 inhabitants. In Bobadilla Estacion there are 1200 inhabitants and we are an ELA (Entidad Local Autonomus) located 17 kilometres from Antequera. My question is: Why was Bobadilla Estacion deleted from Wikipedia? It existed before, but I am not sure when it was deleted. How can the information be restored? I would be most grateful for your help.

I look forward to hearing from you. Kind regards Metatron2022 (talk) 14:09, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If you can find sources about the village, we might be able to create an article. In particular an official census figure for the 1200 inhabitants would be nice. I am fairly limited in my research because I do not speak Spanish (but sources in Spanish are fine). TigraanClick here for my talk page ("private" contact) 15:46, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Pretty sure Bobadilla, Antequera is right. Sungodtemple (talk) 17:07, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your quick response. The article was in Spanish. Should I be talking to the Spanish version of Wikipedia? It was either Bobadilla Estacion or Estacion de Bobadilla. I remember it was quite detailed, explanation of when the feria is, population, location, the Mayor, etc. Please let me know if I should go to the Spanish version of Wikipedia. Thank you. Metatron2022 (talk) 17:16, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Metatron2022, if the article was modified on the Spanish Wikipedia, don't ask on the English Wikipedia. Separate Wikipedias have different policies and guidelines, and what applies here may not apply on the Spanish Wikipedia. Sungodtemple (talk) 18:35, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I didn´t realise they were separate entities. I will go to the Spanish Wikipedia. Thanks for your help Metatron2022 (talk) 19:05, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Metatron2022: You should definitely go to the Spanish Wikipedia to sort that out. However... we folks at the English Wikipedia might still want to create an article. If that place is an official district/town/something and there is sourcing about it, we definitely want to write about it. It will probably be a short article but it’s better than no article.
If you don’t mind, please keep us informed (either here on the Help Desk, or drop me a line at User talk:Tigraan) when you have an answer at the Spanish Wikipedia. TigraanClick here for my talk page ("private" contact) 10:48, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Help[edit]

Hi! I was assigned the event coordinator right some weeks ago and I tried using it for the first time but was restricted. An IP block pop-up shows each time I type in a new username. My IP is not blocked though, the block shows up when trying to create an account for attendees. Any idea on how to resolve this? Thank you! Olugold (talk) 19:19, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Your IP is not locally blocked? Or not blocked globally as well? Ruslik_Zero 19:43, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I tried again and it worked. Thank you so much! Olugold (talk) 19:46, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

possible vandalism - not sure[edit]

This edit was made on the John Keats article talk page. I'm not sure of the protocols around commenting in languages not used to write article or the dominiant language of the talk age; a language and script most readers of the aticle and talk page will not understand. It could be chat or vandalism or something other. Please advise. Translation app suggests probably vandalism. Thanks. Anna (talk) 20:06, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Now resolved. Thanks Anna (talk) 20:40, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Quoting poetry[edit]

Hi Folks!!, Is there anyway particularly way to quote a block of poetry, maybe in a quote box or dialog box or something, to indicate it a different colour maybe, for example. I don't know. Its for Élisa Mercœur. Thanks. scope_creepTalk 21:21, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There's {{Poem quote}} – a variant of {{Blockquote}} that preserves line breaks – which is recommended by MOS:BQ. It doesn't come with colours, though I suppose you could achieve that manually if you really wanted. Madeline (part of me) 21:41, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Best not to fiddle with colours as it's easy to not comply with MOS:COLOR, in particular WP:ACCESSIBILITY. Bazza (talk) 08:22, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Madeline: That is ideal. Thanks. @Bazza: Will do. scope_creepTalk
