MarkBallet This is not the place to communicate regarding donations, but I can say that donations are not associated with accounts. We also don't know what email address you use as that is not public. 331dot (talk) 00:23, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fix about the Olympian Stan Dziedzic[edit]

I need help here. Please I need the reference of Stan Dziedzic to be fixed because I was going to transfer from Sports Reference to Olympedia. 100.2.114.167 (talk) 06:50, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This is a repeat of a discussion that took place a couple of months ago. I'll look for the earlier one. David10244 (talk) 09:40, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, it was 31 December 2022, on page https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Help_desk/Archives/2022_December_31&oldid=1131434970. The same IP asked a very similar question about Tracy Caulkins.
I hope David Biddulph's answer, below, is what you need. It wasn't exactly clear from the question. I think he made the change, but in general, you can make the change yourself or ask on the article's Talk page. (Not sure I gave the best form of the link -- I couldn't figure out a link to the exact section.) Hope this helps. David10244 (talk) 09:58, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In this case the template {{Olympedia}} seems to work, see this edit. - David Biddulph (talk) 09:56, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

how do i get into the WikiProject Trains in Japan? 2077f (talk) 10:27, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@2077f The link you made in the section title goes to a Wikipedia page where there is a box with another link to a list of members. You edit that and add your Username. The direct link to that section is WP:WikiProject_Trains_in_Japan#Participants. Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:40, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Michael D. Turnbull, I added the header and link to the project as the other editor had not done so. TSventon (talk) 11:51, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
thank you 2077f (talk) 12:16, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Make infoboxes and media cut through section headings[edit]

On the page WP:FACTOTUM, the media box pushes the heading down and creates a lot of whitespace. Is there a way to make the media box cut through the heading? Aaron Liu (talk) 13:01, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Aaron Liu: The culprit is the {{clear}} template, but there may be a reason why it was placed there to begin with. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 13:18, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Direction on categorizing person categories[edit]

Hello,

There seems to be some confusion/uncertainty with editing people categories here. I'm not too sure myself, but I do see that (a more frequented) Category:Abraham Lincoln doesn't have every single category of the individual (like birth year, death year, college, etc.) in the people category's list of categories, like Category:Halsey Chase Herreshoff. Any guidance here? --Engineerchange (talk) 13:43, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Engineerchange: Wikipedia:Categorization#Eponymous categories says: "An eponymous category should have only the categories of its article that are relevant to the category's content." The only content of Category:Halsey Chase Herreshoff is the biography which is already in the parent categories, and Category:Sailboat type designs by Halsey Herreshoff. I would only keep Category:American naval architects and Category:American yacht designers. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:26, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"as of|yyyy" template[edit]

Is it possible to get the {{as of|2013}} template to show a lowercase "as" instead of the default upper case "As"? I wanted to insert it into the middle of a sentence, but the forced uppercase "A" prevents that:

  • "The CR engine was manufactured in the following versions - As of 2013 only the CR12DE is still in production."

Chaheel Riens (talk) 13:53, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

See the template page. What you need is {{as of|2013|lc=y}} => as of 2013. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 14:06, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Chaheel Riens: FYI, the template page can be found at Template:As of. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 14:57, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Donation[edit]

You misunderstood my gift which was to be a one time payment. You have charged my credit card 3 months in a row. Return 2 and STOP CHARGING ME! Cjfricke (talk) 15:04, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Cjfricke Please follow the directions on this page. The volunteers at this help desk cannot solve that issue for you. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 15:07, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Cjfricke Just to clarify, we volunteer editors have nothing to do with the donation process; that is handled by the Wikimedia Foundation which operates the computers Wikipedia is on. The link ONUnicorn provided will take you to their website where you can address your matter. 331dot (talk) 15:13, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Cjfricke Also, please do not yell at the people at the Help Desk. We are here to help you, and as both ONUnicorn and 331dot have told you, we have no control of what happens with donations. Club On a Sub 20 (talk) 18:04, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

new pages review[edit]

if i minimze the side bar for functions when reviewing new pages, how do i get it back? thanks. Sm8900 (talk) 15:34, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Sm8900: If you only minimize the Curation Toolbar on the right-arrow then it should still be visible and clickable on the vertical "Curation" to enlarge it again. If you also close it on x then click "Open Page Curation" under "Tools". PrimeHunter (talk) 16:39, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Update for National Wrestling Hall of Fame for Stan Dziedzic[edit]

That won't be necessary, when I go to find out about his resume and reference of Stan Dziedzic in the National Wrestling Hall of Fame online. https://nwhof.org/news/united-world-wrestling-to-induct-15-into-2016-hall-of-fame-class. It says, "404 - Page not found." And found the right site is this one. https://nwhof.org/news/united-world-wrestling-to-inductbr-15-into-2016-hall-of-fame-class. I think you you will put in the right one in the reference in the Hall of Fame. And I have another biography of Stan Dziedzic in his story. https://nwhof.org/hall_of_fame/bio/101 Can you please make an updates for Stan Dziedzic? Because I need help. I was going to ask to put in the external links of https://olympics.com/en/athlete/stanley-joseph-jr-dziedzic. I tried everything to put in {{Olympics.com}} for Stan Dziedzic. There's nothing I can do. Can you figure out how to fix and solve the problems? Thank you. 100.2.114.167 (talk) 16:47, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Public domain images[edit]

Hi Folks!! How would I go about getting a public domain image for this person, Russell Brock, Baron Brock. Its really regarding the Cameron Prize for Therapeutics of the University of Edinburgh articles. There is some images missing and don't know how to get public domain images. Is there a set of techniques, or howto manual on how to find public domain images. Any help is appreciated. scope_creepTalk 20:13, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like he lived from 1903-1980. Currently, most works published prior to 1928 are in the public domain. He would have been 25 in 1928, so you'd be looking for photos published before he was 25. Perhaps his med school yearbook had a photo? ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 21:03, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
University yearbooks weren't a thing in Scotland in the 1970s when I was a student, and I'm pretty sure they weren't in the 1920s. Academic yearbooks with individual photos of students are more an American custom, which some UK establishments may have adopted in the last few decades. Before then a single photo of the whole Year, or School, or at best of a 1st team (Rugby, cricket etc.) were the rule. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.221.194.253 (talk) 21:47, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Scope creep: Since he is deceased, non-free photos may be used if they meet all of the WP:NFCC criteria. RudolfRed (talk) 21:22, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Scope creep Its not directly relevant but are you aware of the template {{NPG name}}? I have just added it to the article in an External links section and it now links automatically to several portraits in the National Portrait Gallery. Mike Turnbull (talk) 21:59, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As to the more general issue, it is often the case that you can do a Google image seach and then use their "Tools" menu to home in on the images with appropriate CC licenses. However, I've tried that for Brock and there were none (although that's how I discovered there were some of him in the NPG). Mike Turnbull (talk) 22:04, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment I saw several images on the The Huxley Memorial Medal and Lecture where the copyright hasn't been renewed but it seemed as though the image wasn't public but it had a public tag on the image. How does that work. What does the mean exactly? scope_creepTalk 14:59, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fix a correction of reference of Stan Dziedzic of Olympedia[edit]

May 26, 2020. The Sports Reference has shut down the Olympics and transferred to Olympedia. Can you fix it for me? I need some help. I don't what happened. I'm sorry. 100.2.114.167 (talk) 22:05, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I think another editor already fixed this. See Wikipedia:Help_desk#Fix_about_the_Olympian_Stan_Dziedzic. Otherwise, please clarify what you are asking for help with. RudolfRed (talk) 22:29, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think that in some (unmentioned) article, a cite to "Sports Reference" should change to "Olympedia". As mentioned a few threads up, this was asked for a different athlete on 31 Dec 2022. A search for links to Sports Reference would show other links to be changed. I don't know how to do this. David10244 (talk) 10:05, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I see that this is actually the third time this has been asked today. David10244 (talk) 10:09, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
