How to participate in the competition:

Welcome to Kateb Maktub Competition, To participate in our competition please follow the following instructions, you can also watch videos on youtube to know how to get started on Wikipedia, if you are a beginner!

  1. Participants must login to their personal account in Wikipedia. If a participant does not have a Wikipedia account, we urge you to create one. It is not possible to enter the competition with more than one Wikipedia account, in case any bots are discovered all these accounts shall be excluded from the competition. Please visit this link for details about creating your own account.
  2. For each round each participant must add their name to the participants’ list, to do this, go to the "Competition rounds" page, then on the participants list, click on Edit, then copy this entire line and paste it, then in the user field add your account/username and in the category field, type the category (first) if you have 500 or more edits in the scope of creating articles or you have registered at least 4 months prior to the date of the start of the competition. If you have less than 500 edits in the article range or registered less than 4 months prior to the start date of the competition, type the category (second). Then click on publish changes and you will see your name in the participants’ list.
  3. Participants must reserve articles from article lists page. After choosing the page, you may reserve 3 articles, but you can only reserve a fourth article after completing at least one of the 3 reserved articles. To reserve articles, click on edit, then in the user field write your name and write today's date, and the round number, whether it was first or second round, then in the status field write reserved.
  4. Start working on the articles you've reserved; 4 points are awarded for each one that is written and has a minimum size of 4 KB as long as it doesn't contain any empty templates. Participants that add an infobox template with at least three character-related personal information will receive bonus points (Birthdate, Death, Nationality, or studies). Participants will receive an additional point if the article contains at least three sources. You also receive one point for including a picture of the author's signature, two points for including a freely licensed images from Wikimedia commons, additional two points are given for adding at least five Wikidata references (Learn how to add items to Wikidata), another extra point for including an authority control template. Additional two points are given for adding at least five Wikidata references (Learn how to add items to Wikidata). You will receive an additional point if the article is published and is not an orphan. Finally. you will receive 10 extra points for every additional 4 KB added to a minimum sized article, provided that the information added is not redundant.
  5. Before publishing your article, you should add in the edits summary the hashtag #KMC, which is an acronym for Kateb Maktub Competition
  6. If a participant have published an article but would like to edit it later on, they can add the {{Under_construction}} template at top of the article page.
  7. After publishing the article, please go back to the articles lists page and change the article’s status from Reserved to Done.
