Newmessageitis is a mental handicap of which a Wikipedia user is so desperate to get new messages that he or she will go to great extent to get them.

Newmessageitis was originally discovered by Dr. James von Strauss, an infamous Wikipedia editor who suffered from editcountitis. He was the first person to link barnstaritis, editcountitis, and newmessageitis together as a result of a case of mutated hiccups.
