Wikipedia:Newcomers help page/Guestbook

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is the Newcomers help page guestbook. The Newcomers help page provides three main help services to new users:

 • answering questions posted directly on the page,
 • helpme responses on talk pages, and
 • IRC.

This guestbook exists for new users to give us feedback on any of those services. We would like to know what your experience with getting help was like, and any improvements you would like to suggest.

Suggestion from Commander Keane[edit]

(this is a sample comment to get us started, although it is a serious suggestion from me)

I think the helpme template is great, but it could be a different colour/design so it is easier to spot on a talk page. --Commander Keane 10:01, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Questions and Comment[edit]

Hola, newbie here. Could anyone please tell me: 1. How to create a table of contents in an article 2. How to make my username appear in different colors automatically when I sign (if possible) 3. How to create an external link where you just make click in a word like "here" (I don't know if this is clear; for example, if I write something like, "go to my excentric dog's webpage by clicking [here]") 4.If this is the correct place to post these questions.

I agree with Commander Keane, the template could use a light yellow background color or something :) Adiós, Rosa Rosameliamartinez 00:03, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

1. Either TOCleft (for the left side of the page) or TOCright (for the right side of the page) will produce a table of contents. There are other kinds and they are listed here. For each article/talk page with more than three headings, a table of contents is automatically generated.

2. Let me know exactly what you require on my talk page and I'll be happy to help.

3. external link: here
internal link: article or someone (the | separates the link from the name you wish to give it) or someuser's talk page

4. Yes, it is one of them.
