Wikipedia:Online Ambassadors/Training

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
These are first draft notes for a training process for ambassadors-in-training to become full ambassadors. Feel free to edit.

There are three hoops to jump through to graduate from an ambassador-in-training to a full ambassador. Ambassadors-in training completing these tasks will be reviewed by a full ambassador (or multiple ambassadors).

Requirements[edit]

IRC/General advice practice[edit]

Either a 30 minute session where ambassadors pose as newcomers with typical problems/questions on IRC, or an on-wiki process where a fake user account posts on the trainee's talk page.

  • COI or notability issue, where they want to create an article that is borderline for inclusion and will need some handholding to figure out how to make it stick around.
    • Help! I tried to create an article for my company, Industrial Foo Management, but it got deleted!"
  • Image issues: uploaded a copyrighted photo which got deleted, and now trying to figure out how to illustrate their article
    • "Every time I try to put a picture of Industrial Foo Management headquarters, it gets deleted!"
  • Sourcing issues
    • "What should I do next to improve Industrial Foo Management?"
  • other?

Mock walkthrough of mentorship[edit]

On-wiki scenarios with fake users and real articles

  • Newbie making newbie mistakes with wiki use / communication
  • Article selection advice
  • Critique of first steps / sourcing advice
  • Suggestions for moving forward on an article that is substantial but not that great

GA review/DYKs[edit]

Do a solid GA review (not just a quick-fail or immediate pass), and check and review three DYKs.

Evaluation[edit]

If at least one full ambassador has looked over an ambassador-in-training's work and thinks that it is time for him/her to become a full ambassador, he/she may be promoted provided there is no valid opposition by other users.
