Burning of Jaffna library[edit]

The burning of the Jaffna library was an important event in the ongoing Sri Lankan civil war. An organized mob went on a rampage on the nights of May 31 to June 2, 1981, burning the Jaffna public library. It was one of the violent examples of ethnic biblioclasm of the twentieth century. The library at the time of destruction was one of the biggest in Asia. I need it peer reviewed with NPOV, WP:RS and style. Thanks RaveenS 21:58, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bakasuprman[edit]

I find this page a very interesting and well thought out especially in the analysis of the burning situation. It feels a bit terse though. There is a good amount of content on the fallout, but its lacking on the actual library, history of the library, books in the library, etc.Bakaman 23:43, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not doneWill create another page about Jaffna library, but a question is the Jaffna library itself a WP:Notable article or just the burning of it only a notable event ? RaveenS 12:11, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think 2 articles will be ideal with one covering this incident and the other focusing on the library itself. Given its history and popularity in Sri Lanka, Jaffna Library deserves an article itself, rather than a redirect here.
Considering it was one of the biggest libraries in Asia I'm pretty sure it will qualify as notable, provided enough sources can found.--snowolfD4( talk / @ ) 19:30, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I did a google search, then went to GTA library search to do a comprehensive lit. survey, could not find any notable articles about the library itself, all the articles i.e 99.9% are about it's burning, hence my conclusion that the library itself is not notable entity that deserves an article by itself. If anyone may find information contrary to it, I may change my opinion. Hence I decline to create another article on it. Thanks for the opinion though RaveenS 22:49, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Praveen pillay[edit]

I agree with Baka to certain extent. A new article (if it does not exist already) could be created about "Jaffna library" and linked to this article. And all the information that Baka asked could be provided there. After all this is "Burning of Jaffna library". Praveen 04:21, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
See above RaveenS 12:11, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Both interesting and well written. Interesting use of footnotes and citations. Gaius Cornelius 07:40, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
