The Lion King[edit]

I tried to get this at featured article status at the beginning of the year, but it failed. I would love to get opinions on it, to see if it can make it to that status. PlatformerMastah 00:03, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Very good article overall. The FAC reviewers got some of the main issues. Some things that could be improved: it needs more citations generally, the Musical section needs to be expanded (too short to be a separate section as of right now), and the Characters section needs to be written mainly in summary style.UberCryxic 01:47, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good work. Some thoughts:
  • The lead does not very closely conform to WP:LEAD. The summary of the film is too short, among other things, especially given the percentage of the article dedicated to it.
  • I really hate the {{spoiler}}, but... I know that's the convention.
  • In "Production": "Computers also aided in the implementation of a classic Disney animation technique called "multiplaning" that was prominently featured in Bambi." Explain?
  • "Plot synopsis" follows the plot too closely. In fact, it's hardly a synopsis -- much of the action is described in detail. As a result, some of the wording is awkward. I would cut it down.
  • Some information towards the end seems trivial and unnecessary -- that the film was occasionaly mentioned in ER ("Impact on popular culture"), that the Circle of Life is mentioned in The Land Before Time (why in "Controversies"?), and that Simba makes an appearance in Kingdom of Hearts ("Video games"), doesn't seem relevant to me.
Overall, it's very comprehensive, but I think the article could be shorter. And as UberCryxic mentioned: If you're planning on FAC again, you'll probably need more inline citations. The lead (e.g. "highest-grossing traditionally animated feature film ever released"), "Production" (e.g. "some of the filmmakers even went to Africa"), and "Music" (e.g. "Many critics felt this played a crucial role") are poorly sourced. -- bcasterlinetalk 02:31, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • The main things I noticed were citations and redlinks. Some sections are well referenced, but other statements such as, "The Lion King is heavily influenced by American musical theater," need support. Suggest converting the cast list into table format. You're close to FA but not quite there yet. Keep working. Durova 02:34, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
