Noisy PS4[edit]

My PS4 has been getting very noisy during gameplay recently. I understood that this was because there was a build-up of dust inside the unit, so I got an IT expert to take it apart and clean the insides of it. Sure enough there was a lot of dust in there which he got rid of using a compressed air canister. So he put the PS4 back together again and it works fine but the unit is still just as noisy as it was before the cleaning. What else can I do to reduce the amount of noise coming from the unit during gameplay? --Viennese Waltz 07:05, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It may be the old fan that is responsible. It may need to be replaced. Or it may be thermal interface between the fan and the CPU. Ruslik_Zero 07:56, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Actually I forgot to mention that he applied a fresh amount of thermal paste as well to the interface between the fan and the CPU. --Viennese Waltz 15:05, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
What is the noise? Is it a rattling? Is it a humming? Is it a squeaking? Is it a thumping? There aren't many mechanical parts inside a PS4. You have the hard drive, the fans, and the disk tray. You appear to be convinced that it is the fan, but gave no reason that you came to that assumption. 71.85.51.150 (talk) 12:29, 16 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I came to that assumption because the noise is the sound of a fan whirring. It is not a sound made by either the hard drive or the disk tray. --Viennese Waltz 18:15, 16 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
A whirring sound can come from a hard drive or a disk that is spinning in the disk tray or even from a disk tray motor that is stuck on, among many other things. I had a controller that the weight on the vibrator broke off, so the little motor in it made noise as it spun, but the controller didn't vibrate. 209.149.113.5 (talk) 17:05, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
