August 24[edit]

Looking for a book API[edit]

I am looking for a public API that can take the Title/Author of a book as input, and return 1) whether the book is fiction or non-fiction, and 2) if the book is non-fiction, its Dewey Decimal Number. I am willing to use an API that costs money. PuzzledvegetableIs it teatime already? 00:18, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Open Library has an extensive API, documented here. For a specific book, it reports lots of information (in JSON format). For The Lord of the Rings (the sample they have on their API docs page) it reports subject: [.."Fiction"..]]. For The C Programming Language it reports Dewey Decimal as "ddc": ["005.133"] But it is so helpful, you might find processing its responses burdensome. -- Finlay McWalter··–·Talk 13:42, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We use the Library of Congress API. There are options here. 97.82.165.112 (talk) 17:25, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Presumably an API is what is referred to. -- SGBailey (talk) 06:51, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
