Jackie Brown and Ladykillers[edit]

I've recently done a bit of research into the various movie references worked into Tarantino's Jackie Brown, and there's one scene that has me especially hooked: near the end, just before Melanie (Bridget Fonda's character) is shot by Louis (de Niro's character), she teases him for a while because he doesn't know where he parked the car and says several times "Looouis...Looooouis". It took me a while before I realized why this seemed so familiar: it's very similar to the way Alec Guinness talks at the end of Ladykillers (the 1955 original...never bothered with the remake). A Google search for "jackie brown ladykillers" just gave me a bunch of DVD buying guides, and no article on Jackie Brown I could dig up makes any mention of a possible connection, but the similarities seem to be too great to be a mere coincidence (even though Ladykillers is not the kind of film I'd generally associate with being a possible influence on Tarantino, but that's what makes the possible connection especially intriguing). Does anybody know whether this is a conscious reference? Maybe there's something on the commentary track of the collector's edition DVD of Jackie Brown, which unfortunately I do not have -- Ferkelparade π 00:01, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I do have a special edition of Jackie Brown, but I'd be hard-pressed to remember a metion of anything referencing Ladykillers. I'm going to dust it off and take a look again. Play[edit]

Quick question.

I don't know when the song was recorded, but Kate Moss has appeared in blackface on the cover of the Independent [1] which may or may not be one of the controversies she's been involved in that you know about, and could explain why "black Kate Moss" has meaning that maybe "black *insert supermodel of your choice*" might not. Also, it approximately rhymes pretty well several syllables back with the previous line of the song: "Let's get lost tonight/You can be my black Kate Moss tonight." Kanye West likes to use long repetitive catchy rhymes in his lyrics, and you can find a lot in this song "Stronger."--El aprendelenguas 00:45, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
