Discrepancy on Hawaii 5-0[edit]

The new Steve McGarrett refers to his father as John & we se4e his grave marker as John. The original show had the lead (Jack Lord) as Steve McGarrett. Why the discrepancy?173.54.202.152 (talk) 05:40, 6 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

From Hawaii Five-0: Several days later, Alex O'Loughlin was cast as Steve McGarrett, the son of ex-cop Jack McGarrett (portrayed by William Sadler) after the producers decided to reboot the series and make the junior McGarrett a Navy SEAL and chose to name Steve's father Jack in honor of Jack Lord, the star of the original series.

(Aside: I can't believe they expect people generally to differentiate between Hawaii Five-0 and Hawaii Five-O, given that the number 0 (zero) is mostly called "oh" as if it were a letter anyway. What I mean is that people will hear about the new show and assume it's a recreation of the old show under exactly the same name. But it's not exactly the same name. Yet the difference is one that is sure to trip up many and completely elude many others. The original "5-O" was a reference to Hawaii being the US's 50th state; it should properly have been 5-0 (zero), but they made it 5-O (oh) in their wisdom, probably because people were going to say "five oh" anyway. Which they did. Now, people will see 5-0 (zero) and still say "five oh", and will spell the new show's title as 5-O, just like the original show. Title(s) of the show[edit]

I've only seen a little bit of either version of the show, so now I have a question regarding Jack's remarks above and Wikipedia's article titles. On either version of the show, how do you know whether that character in the title is meant to be an O or a 0? Even if the characters use the title phrase and explain what it refers to, the title need not conform to their usage. (Consider Doctor Who, where the main character is "the Doctor", never "Dr. Who". I think that the title comes from someone's response in the very first episode when they hear him called "the Doctor".) And in some typefaces the characters O and 0 are identical. Do both versions of this show have credits in the same font that include both O and 0, enabling us to know which one is used in the title? Or is someone just relying on an external source that says that they are different? --Anonymous, 04:24 UTC, November 7, 2010.

The justification for naming the article about the new show with a zero - as linked from the talk page - is rather flimsy, IMHO. It used to be 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, and 0 points for a loss. The awarding of 1 point for an overtime loss began with the 1999–2000 NHL season. Lyrics conflict? Ramsey Lewis Trio![edit]

I found a song from Ramsey Lewis Trio that i find to be amazing, so i tried to look up the lyrics (partly because for me the instruments are more dominant and so its hard for me to hear exactly what they are saying). When i looked up the song i matched it to the album and several different sites gave different lyrics, and none of them are the lyrics in my song. Why is this, and what are the words i am hearing?

The song is "Open my heart" from the album "Time Flies". I suspect that maybe i have a version where the lyrics aren't sung, but that its mostly an instrumental with some back up vocals.

The lyrics i am hearing, i will try to capture them as well as possible, are as follows:

Don't let me make the same mistakes, over and over again!

I doubt this is too useful for identification, but if need be perhaps i can upload a clip to youtube? Let me know if this is needed.

Any info on what the lyrics are for my version are greatly appreciated, as well as the reason for why it seems to not be the same as the song i am finding lyrics for.

Your response is helpful, actually on that yahoo page you can click the play button and it plays the exact song i have. They seem to only sing little parts of the lyrics that are written there. Im still not sure why, but at least now i know alot of the words that were question marks in my original post. "Guide me until i'm sure" etc. I'd still like to see a further explanation of this if anyone has one? Is this intended to be an instrumental? That being said, I'm also going to look on youtube now and see if i can find the lyrics version yahoo has written (again not sure why their audio doesnt match, LOL)
