July 14[edit]

Ball of ?[edit]

I was watching The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and he had Carl Reiner on. Reiner wanted to sing a song titled something like "Ball of Bellamore" but Ferguson said he couldn't sing it because it was too dirty (they would have had to censor too much of it). Was this a comedic bit? I've Googled a few spellings and can't find anything titled like it. Or is this a real song? Dismas|(talk) 05:02, 14 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The Ball of Kirriemuir, aka Four and Twenty Virgins (Roud 4828). We do not have an article on this folk classic! See John Strachan (singer) for our only reference to it. Tevildo (talk) 07:27, 14 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Here are details of the song, and here is Kenneth McKellar's NSFW version. Ghmyrtle (talk) 08:03, 14 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks both of you! I thought the last word started with a B but after listening to it and reading some of the verses, this must be it! I found a version by Jim Croce which I would not have expected given the lyrics. About the only thing I know by him is "Bad Bad Leroy Brown". Thanks again, Dismas|(talk) 08:33, 14 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You should get to know "Time in a Bottle". -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 21:42, 15 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I've heard that too. BBLB was just the first thing that came to mind. It's funny that you mention TiaB though. I discussed this with my car pool buddy after I heard the Croce version of the song and the next day he brought the CD with TiaB to listen to on our way in to work. Music question[edit]

Can some music expert with sharp ears tell me the chord progression from 0:21 to 0:38 here? I've spent ages trying to get it, appears to be Cmin, Fmin/C, D7/C, G/B, Eb/Bb, Ab, C#, Gsus, G, is that right? There's a lot of chromatic notes which makes it hard, and the neapolitan C# isn't in 1st inversion which is strange and makes me think I got it wrong. Please someone tell me thanx. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Money is tight (talkcontribs) 08:49, 14 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the fourth chord should be Gmin, not G(major). --Thomprod (talk) 17:18, 14 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That's impossible. Listen to the bass strings, that chord has bass B not Bb, so it can't be Gmin. Money is tight (talk) 04:42, 15 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Don't know, but I linked your video for convenience. Hope you don't mind. InedibleHulk (talk) 04:44, 16 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
