September 24[edit]

color palette in cinema[edit]

In Awake, the protagonist lives in two timelines, which are distinguished for us by emphasizing greens in one and reds in the other.

And then there's the cliché of filling the scene with teal to exaggerate contrast with skin (which may be artificially over-saturated with orange; I noticed that sometimes in Dexter).

Do we have an article on this sort of thing? I haven't found one. —Tamfang (talk) 17:06, 24 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I don't believe so, but TvTropes does (warning: TVTropes, may eat your day) Sebthepleb (talk) 18:25, 24 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Don't see one either, but there are certainly enough sources out there to create Artistic use of color in cinematography (hint, hint). Clarityfiend (talk) 19:11, 24 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Cinematography only covers the nuts and bolts aspects, so the creative side is definitely lacking. Clarityfiend (talk) 19:14, 24 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Tamfang: The film O Brother, Where Art Thou was color manipulated. The article links to Color correction as the process used. Maybe the same process used in the TV show? RudolfRed (talk) 18:24, 25 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It's partly that, but also set-dressing. —Tamfang (talk) 19:32, 25 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
This article has several bits of info about color manipulation in Scorsese's film The Aviator. This section The Aviator (2004 film)#Cinematography also mentions some of this. MarnetteD|Talk 20:06, 25 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
What Dreams May Come may come to mind, as could "I see red, people." Clarityfiend (talk) 05:47, 26 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Googling orange teal film will net you a bunch of interesting articles on the topic. I didn't see this one on that list, but it's one of my favourites. Matt Deres (talk) 12:34, 30 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
