Face paint in pro wrestling.[edit]

Who started face paint thing in pro wrestling? Rizosome (talk) 09:49, 19 July 2021 (UTC) Face Paint means Sting (wrestler)[reply]

This article looks like it might be useful for you. I found it by typing your exact question in Google. --Jayron32 10:43, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

List didn't say who started it. Rizosome (talk) 03:34, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No, but it does give many early pioneers, and says "So, who was the originator of face paint in wrestling, and where did the face paint look come from? Well, like wrestling’s origins itself, there is no definitive answer." (bold mine) --Jayron32 11:20, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
User:Jayron32, this is very reminiscent of grading sophomore essays, and talking to COI editors. Drmies (talk) 01:48, 22 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Jimi Hendrix on Rory Gallagher[edit]

There is a famous story that Jimi Hendrix was asked in an interview "What's it like to be the greatest guitarist in the world?" to which he responded "I don't know, ask Rory Gallagher". I have searched and found this story quoted in a number of places but I can't find what I would consider actual definitive proof, i.e. the actual interview. I have watched a few interviews in my search where Jimi is very humble when the question is asked but Rory Gallagher isn't mentioned in the ones I've seen, in one he describes Billy Gibbons as his "favourite guitarist" but nothing on "best". I've read it attributed to both The Dick Cavett Show and The Mike Douglas Show among other places but I'd like to see some actual proof...help? Biggs Pliff (talk) 20:11, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

There are so many stories about what one particular guitarist said about who their "favorite guitarist" was, and Jimi Hendrix most often appears as the respondent in most of these. Hendrix was often very humble and complimentary of other guitarists; he praised Terry Kath, for example, as the "greatest guitarist in the universe." He said of Jeff Beck's playing "How does Jeff do all of this?", besides Gibbons as you mention above; Gibbons toured with Hendrix as a teenager in a pre-ZZ Top band he was in called the Moving Sidewalks. This source attributes Hendrix's quote about Gallagher to the Mike Douglas Show, and also cites other guitarists well regarded by Hendrix. This article doesn't say that Gallagher was the best guitarist in the world, according to this he was more sly about it, he responded to Douglas's direct question on who the best guitarist was with "I don't know, you'll have to ask Rory Gallagher", which is a bit different. Hendrix was rather evasive and genuinely humble when called out on his own skill, here you can see part of an interview on the Dick Cavett Show, where Dick calls him the greatest guitarist in the world, and Hendrix blushes and says "How about just the greatest guitarist sitting in this chair". That same video also has an interview with Gibbons where he recalls his early relationship with Hendrix. --Jayron32 11:17, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I recently saw it attributed to Eric Clapton ("ask Prince"). Perhaps he knew of the Hendrix anecdote. —Tamfang (talk) 00:45, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
