What period is this coin from?[edit]

The metadata says the photo was taken in Rajasthan, and it looks like a Mughal-era coin, perhaps smaller than a rupee. Unfortunately "Mughal-era" covers some 300 years, and almost as many Princely States where the coin might have been struck. Card Zero (talk) 08:15, 10 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm trawling through this massive list of similar coins in case I spot it. It's likely that the first side has the ruler who made it, written on it, in Persian, and the back may be a coat of arms. ...OK, on the last page of that list I discovered the Tonk State mint mark, which looks like a leaf or boteh. Examples: 1 2 3 4. I think I see that on the back of your coin. Tonk, India is about 20 miles from where the picture was taken. If I'm right, this narrows the date range down to 1806–1949 (that's how long Tonk State existed). The back, rotated 90°, looks a great deal like the back of this George V Tonk rupee, so maybe 1910–1936 (a big fat guess). Card Zero (talk) 09:37, 10 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
