- It only sounds redundant. Something that's avian refers to birds. But something that's petrine refers to the Apostle Peter, not to rock. It's two words with a shared etymological origin but different meanings. I'd assume the question has something to do with the "petrine rock" (Catholic) interpretation of Matthew 16:18 - though just what, seems to have been left as an exercise for the reader.... - Nunh-huh 23:04, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
