Gwenwynwyn ab Owain Cyfeiliog[edit]

Hi everybody! Can someone help me with this: how is pronounced the Welsh name "Gwenwynwyn" (as in Gwenwynwyn ab Owain) - you can use the IPA... I guess "gwen-unwin", but a Welsh speaker can surely do better. That is my estimate based on the way his name was apparently pronounced in Latin, which we can see thanks to this awesome website full of medieval charters. His name is spelled variously in Latin there - Wennunwen ([1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6]), Guenoingven ([7]), Wenunwyn ([8]), Wenuinwin ([9]), Wenunwen ([10]), Wennuinwin ([11]), and Wenunwin ([12]). My guess: [ˈgwenwənwɨn], although with those old Welsh names the stress is sometimes different; if that's the case, it may be [gwɛnˈwənwɨn] or [gwɛnwəˈnwɨːn]. Strad 19:09, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
