November 2[edit]

What would be a Chinese name that sounds similar to Hunter Biden?[edit]

If Joe Biden's name "equivalent" in Chinese would be Zhao Baidung and Beau Biden's name "equivalent" in Chinese would be Bao Baidung, what would Hunter Biden's name "equivalent" in Chinese be? Futurist110 (talk) 06:12, 2 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Futurist110, we have an article on him on the Chinese Wikipedia: 亨特·拜登. In pinyin it'd be transliterated transcribed into "Hēng tè bài dēng". —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 06:40, 2 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
What are the Pinyin translations for the names of the rest of the Biden family? Futurist110 (talk) 19:50, 2 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Merci beaucoup! The Jill Jacobs Biden Pinyin translation is, of course, the most unusual by far! Futurist110 (talk) 21:15, 2 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Futurist110: Technically, what you ask for is not translation, but transcription, because you're representing the sounds of the names in a different form rather than actually transferring meaning from one language to another. I would encourage you to read Transcription into Chinese characters if you're interested in the topic. They have a table that shows you how names are generally transliterated. bibliomaniac15 21:27, 2 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
