People's names in italics beneath pictures[edit]

Could anyone please tell me if it's permissible to put a person's name in italics beneath a picture of said person? I didn't read the whole thing, but the MOS seems to indicate not.--Thylacine24 (talk) 21:33, 24 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

See WP:Manual_of_Style/Captions: "The text of captions should not be specially formatted (with italics, for example), except in ways that would apply if it occurred in the main text. Several discussions (e.g. this one) have failed to reach a consensus on whether "stage directions" such as (right) or (behind podium) should be in italics, set off with commas, etc. Any one article should use a consistent approach throughout.
