November 14[edit]

Bert Bell[edit]

| Bert Bell is currently a GA. Long story short, I am missing a statement I want in the article from his daughter Jane Upton. She was the producer or executive producer for an afternoon program on TV (I think the Mike Douglas program) and she made a statement about how he died and how her family felt when he died. The statement was made in the 1970s or 1980s and exists online and I read it. I can no longer find the statement. I believe the statement was made in a Los Angeles, Hollywood, or California newspaper or periodical. I view the statement as critical to improving the article. Can anyone help me to point me to the proper help desk to go to, please. Ijustreadbooks (talk) 04:56, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe WP:REX can help?--Jayron32 12:04, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Or, you can often find old newspaper articles by searching the google news archive. For example, here is an article from 1981 with Jane Upton reminiscing about her father, though it doesn't sound like the particular one you remember, you can keep trying the news archive until you find the one you remember. It lets you narrow down the date, too.174.88.8.190 (talk) 02:17, 15 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Leg Crossing[edit]

I have noticed that many people tend to sit with their legs crossed a lot, and it seems to be a very comfortable sitting position for them. I wish that I could sit like that, too, but I can't do it comfortably (my leg muscles have to work really hard to keep my leg from falling off of the other one). How can I cross my legs comfortably? (By the way, this is not a joke or a prank. This is really a very serious question). Thanks. SuperHero2111 (talk) 05:11, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Experiment with different ways and see which one works. If you feel as if you've got less flexibility than you think you should have, I recommend you talk to your doctor about it. There might be a specialist who could put you some physical therapy or exercise program to improve your flexibility. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 05:37, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. But I don't think the issue is flexibility. It's just my legs falling off, and the thigh muscles working to keep my leg on. And on rare occasions, I can cross them comfortably. Like if I've just gotten out of the shower, and my legs are sticky. Or when I'm sitting on a big, soft chair with a back. SuperHero2111 (talk) 05:51, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Do I just have slippery legs or something? SuperHero2111 (talk) 05:54, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It's simply a matter of personal anatomy. I can sit very easily with my legs in a tight half lotus. I have had other people freak out seeing this, wondering how much pain I must be in. My father found it easy as a boy to sit with his feet behind his ears. People simply vary in their dimensions. μηδείς (talk) 06:05, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So there is no way for me to ever cross my legs like other people? Is there any surgery that could possibly help? SuperHero2111 (talk) 06:32, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Also, 90% of people I see can do it. So I honestly do not know why I cannot. SuperHero2111 (talk) 06:36, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Be proud of being among the 10% of people who aren't just like everybody else. HiLo48 (talk) 07:05, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
As for surgical solutions, you need to see a doctor about this, as Baseball Bugs said above. We cannot give medical advice, other than to send you to a doctor for assessment and more info. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 07:24, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
A quick Google shows that the internet is awash with people advising you NOT to cross your legs as it isn't terribly good for your circulation.[1] Whether you should take this seriously or not, your doctor will advise. Alansplodge (talk) 16:57, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. I usually sit with my legs crossed, and our H&S person regularly takes me to task for it. The important point to remember is that people sit like that because they find it more comfortable - if the OP finds sitting with straight legs to be more comfortable, then they should continue to do so. It's not a particularly useful skill to possess, after all. :) Tevildo (talk) 21:23, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
