February 14[edit]

What's a "Snowfarm"?[edit]

In this video, the anouncetress refers to Bostonians using "snowfarms" (Just after 1 minute in): video to deal with their 3 meters of snowfall this year. I googled, but no result. Can anyone suggest what a snowfarm is? or was she saying snowforum with a West Coast accent? Thanks. μηδείς (talk) 00:04, 14 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It seems to be a vacant lot where a city dumps all its unwanted snow. See here. Rojomoke (talk) 00:22, 14 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I assumed there was an easy answer, but google isn't always helpful when the terms are too common. μηδείς (talk) 00:30, 14 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It seems to be a common expression in Boston, injecting some humor into a rough situation, and its meaning can be inferred by this cute story. It is common practice in snowier parts of the US, such as the Midwest, to stack snow in vacant lots or the far ends of parking lots. Winter lets go reluctantly, and some of those mounds of snow aren't fully gone until May. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 02:39, 14 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I remember being annoyed that we were not allowed to play in the (black) snow piles that still existed in late April in the parking lots in NJ in 1978. μηδείς (talk) 03:59, 14 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Doug Clark[edit]

Why hasn't Doug Clark been executed yet? Handschuh-talk to me 03:48, 14 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • The presumption would be appeals, but if not, I'll do it if they pay the round-trip ticket. μηδείς (talk) 05:25, 14 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The death penalty process in California is remarkably slow, with an average wait of 25 years before execution, almost twice the U.S. average. In fact, execution is the least common cause of death among California death row inmates.[1] Rmhermen (talk) 05:49, 14 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't look like he will be executed any time soon either. Since 1978, only 13 of over 900 people have been executed and U.S. District Judge Cormac J. Carney ruled last year that California’s death penalty violates the U.S. Constitution’s ban on cruel and unusual punishment, stating that a “system in which arbitrary factors, rather than legitimate ones like the nature of the crime or the date of the death sentence, determine whether an individual will actually be executed,” [2]. -Modocc (talk) 05:54, 14 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Per Capital punishment in California, there's been a moratorium since 2006 which as you say given the above decision looks set to continue for a long time yet. Nil Einne (talk) 17:48, 14 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Indirect communication with a third person using a second person[edit]

How do you define something like e.g., I want you (2nd person) to say something to someone (third person) but instead of saying it to you directly, what I wish for you to say, I create an issue for you where you personally with your own will say what I wished for you to say to the third person… How do you describe this? -- (Angelos|Angelus (talk) 19:47, 14 February 2015 (UTC))[reply]

Trickery. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 20:10, 14 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
An IP on the talk page suggests "manipulation." ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 21:38, 14 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I've used both of the words already Bugsy, in the sentence. Thanks... -- (Angelos|Angelus (talk) 07:13, 15 February 2015 (UTC))[reply]
FYI... I may be wrong, but I think your signature is supposed to show a reference to your actual user ID. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 07:27, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I see nothing in WP:Signature which says that, Baseball Bugs. Your signature may not impersonate another user, and must have at least one link to your user or user talk page, but there's no requirement that your user name appear in your sig. --ColinFine (talk) 10:21, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't seen your name for ages. Hope you are well... -- (Angelos|Angelus (talk) 19:24, 15 February 2015 (UTC))[reply]

""Silious Ri? "I want that you say.... is fine in English, even though your "Englsh" is terrific. μηδείς (talk) 21:27, 14 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
