Help with UK uniform identification.[edit]
I been trying to work out what my mother did in WWII (she died when I was not that old, and I never asked her) - the only early image I have that might help is at http://www.ronjones.org.uk/misc/ladies.jpg (the lady on the left). It not the sharpest photo, the scan is good, the base photo is not great. There is something on the hat, the other lady seems to have wings? on her arm, so I'm assuming they are both in uniform. - Your mother, the lady on the left, appears to have a pip on her epaulettes, suggesting she was an officer. The cap badge looks more like an army badge of some kind rather than air force or navy (and they have stripes on their epaulettes instead of pips). It doesn't look like a National Fire Service uniform, nor any of the nursing corps. DuncanHill (talk) 19:07, 10 October 2018 (UTC)

- I thought at first that the cap badge resembled the Auxiliary Territorial Service, like this, but they wore a soft peaked cap and a tunic with breast pockets. The hat is like that worn by the Women's Land Army, but the cap badge doesn't look quite right, neither does it look exactly like the Timber Corps of the WLA here but maybe a little closer. A similar hat was worn by the Women's Voluntary Services but the badge was square. Alansplodge (talk) 17:11, 11 October 2018 (UTC)

- The ATA wore RAF uniforms (like the lady on the right in th OP's photo) but often with a field service cap. The only pictures of left-hand lady's hat I could find were Land Army or WVS. 12:29, 12 October 2018 (UTC)
