Identify these EU leaders[edit]

Hmm, I thought this would be easy by looking at the list of current members of the EU Council (Heads of Government of each EU member), see https://www.consilium.europa.eu/en/european-council/members/. But I can't work out who the man with the white beard is. Reverse image search of the photo shows it was taken at/after a UN Climate Sunmmit, so they might be world leaders from non-EU countries. The bearded man looks like Miguel Arias Cañete, EU Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy. It would make sense that he would be sitting next to Donald Tusk at a meeting of EU leaders on climate issues. Xuxl (talk) 19:34, 9 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, while the context of this meeting isn't clear from the various mentions of it, all sources I found only refer to those three and some even call it a tripartite leader meeting or similar. It's possible some leaders of the EU itself were present but I doubt there were any leaders or representatives of other EU countries. The lack of any mention of anyone else in any sources I found makes me think that whoever they are, they probably aren't that significant in political terms (whatever their significance in power terms). They don't look like they will help with the main unidentified ones from the previous photo but there's chance the ones hidden by Merkel could be identified and maybe some of the others not really visible in the earlier image. The name badges and lanyards on the other people suggest they are not leaders but some other type of bureaucrat. I'm not sure about the guy with the beard, but the guy opposite him is also sporting a lanyard. -- zzuuzz ^(talk) 10:44, 10 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You're probably right that they're officials, apologies for the misdirection but I somehow assumed they were leaders or at least ministers. Also in support of your theory is that both Merkel and Johnson have name plates on the table (although Macron seems to have lost his), while the blokes at the other end of the table don't. --Viennese Waltz 08:05, 11 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
