Stratford Downtown, Connecticut[edit]

Moin. I hope this counts as miscellaneous: Can anyone in the know enlighten me regarding how Stratford Downtown CDP GNIS relates to the former Stratford CDP (historical), as referenced in GNIS? It would be of special interest if these CDP are identical and just an administrative modification, or whether there's actual differences in dimensions and location. Background is that there's an attempt at the de:wp to update WD-objects referring to places in the US with current FIPS-codes, and the question had arisen if the respective objects of those two CDPs can be united, or the older one deleted, or properly none of the above. It is hard to say, because GNIS only puts coordinates on the map, and does not have boundaries. It is possible either way; New England CDPs are really not locally recognized; they are used only because the Census doesn't like dealing with New England towns, the local municipalities, as census divisions, and they created the CDPs in New England to define "built up places" inside of towns. There can be one, several, or even NO CDPs defined for a town in New England. Also rather confusing is that the CDPs tend to retain their boundaries over decades, even if the "urban conglomeration" that defines them grows over time. There can be multiple CDPs with similar names within a town, for example I grew up in Hudson, New Hampshire. GNIS recognizes both a "Hudson" and a "Hudson Center" as places within the Town of Hudson; those are different places. Since the GNIS has different coordinates for "Stratford" and "Stratford Downtown", there is likely a difference between the two. --Jayron 32 12:57, 15 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Accident to Skyways aircraft at Ankara 1956[edit]

In late November/early December 1956 I was a passenger on a Skyways trooping flight from Stansted bound for Singapore, routed through Brindisi, Baghdad and points east. Hours after leaving Stansted the aircraft was diverted to Malta (apparently because of a diplomatic irregularity with Italy)leading to an unscheduled overnight stopover. The following day the aircraft left Malta for Baghdad but was routed through Ankara, to refuel, because of inadequate fuel capacity. On touchdown at an unsuitable military airfield outside Ankara the aircraft's undercarriage was severely damaged by a soft surface and, after a 3-day unscheduled overnight stay, a replacement aircraft (Hermes G-ALDY)was supplied to complete the journey. What was the original aircraft that left Stansted and is there a report of the incident or a copy of the pilot's notes available, please?

Following the link provided by 2603 and doing a country search for Turkey does not show any incidents for 1956 [2]. I also don't find anything in nearby years that matches your description, so it just doesn't appear to be recorded at all in the database. --Amble (talk) 18:05, 15 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Where can I find the page that presented the daily COVID cases and deaths in the UK? It was similar to pages for other nations and states, but it seems to have disappeared.
