Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Nicola Horlick

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I am making a request for mediation with regard to the page about me on Wikipedia. Someone keeps adding a section to my page about the Bernard Madoff scandal. A senior editor contacted me in May 2017, made changes to the page and promised me that the section about Bernard Madoff would be permanently removed. Someone then added it back.

The facts are as follows. In 2007, Bramdean Alternatives Limited listed on the London Stock Exchange. The company had two asset managers - Bramdean Asset Management and RMF (part of Man Group PLC). I was the CEO of Bramdean Asset Management, which was responsible for a portfolio of private equity and debt funds for Bramdean Alternatives. RMF was responsible for a portfolio of hedge funds for Bramdean Alternatives. Bramdean Asset Management and RMF reported to the Board of Bramdean Alternatives (the Board was completely independent of both firms). RMF invested a total of $350m in Madoff funds for all of its clients including Bramdean Alternatives. I had nothing to do with that portfolio or with RMF. I was responsible for the other part of the portfolio. The British press seemingly became confused and were unable to differentiate between Bramdean Alternatives and Bramdean Asset Management. Hence it was reported that I had invested in Madoff. This has been subsequently been corrected in other articles. I have asked Wikipedia many times to remove the paragraph about Bernard Madoff from my Wikipedia page. I have been in the financial services industry for 35 years and have had a very distinguished career. By putting the paragraph on my page, I have suffered reputational damage and I would ask that this matter is finally put to rest.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Nhorlick (talkcontribs)

I would only comment that this user needs to withdraw the legal threat they made here. 331dot (talk) 13:41, 29 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Reject: This request is rejected by the Mediation Committee for at least the following reasons:

  1. Fails to satisfy prerequisite to mediation #1, "Acceptance of the request will benefit both the article and Wikipedia" as the filing editor is indefinitely blocked.
  2. Improperly filed. The Committee only accepts requests made through the "File a request" form on the Request for Mediation page.
  3. Fails to satisfy prerequisite to mediation #4, "The parties must have first engaged in extensive discussion of the matter in dispute at the article talk page and discussion only through edit summaries will not suffice."

Note: Nicola Horlick is a lawyer by training, not a Wikipedia editor (aside from a few changes to her own biographical article, under consideration). It is therefore understandable that she turns to a mechanism Wikipedia calls mediation, rather than finding her way to the place the encyclopedia would like her to begin, namely Dealing with articles about yourself. I post this here in case she returns to this page. I will now go and see what I can do about the article. Carbon Caryatid (talk) 14:01, 2 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
