Aranda56[edit]

Aranda56 (talk · contribs); request made at 21:14, 3 November 2005 (UTC).

Your reason for requesting this permission-I am requesting for the rollback button to use for the purpose of fighting vandalism. I have a RFA right now that is probaly heading to a no consious as I was to impatient and quick to renominate myself for adminship just to have this tool. It is hard fighting vandalism manually andmy computer cant read the alternate rollback button that most non-admins use. I hope u guys could accept my explaination for having this tool. --JAranda | watz sup 21:14, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Support:

  1. Support - I'd rather he had the whole package but this will have to do for now. --Celestianpower háblame 22:14, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Support, no reason at all to suspect he'd abuse it. Friday (talk) 22:29, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Support. --Nlu 22:46, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  4. Support - I think he's trustworthy, and most users dedicated enough to have made as many edits as he has would know how to use it. Nihiltres 23:11, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  5. Support, trustworthy, even though I know this won't actually go anywhere. ~~ N (t/c) 23:49, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  6. Support if this policy is in effect. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 02:31, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose:

  1. Oppose — nothing personal, Aranda56. Indeed, nothing against you at all. I just want to point out that this is a proposed policy, and there are many objections and questions yet to be answered regarding the proposal. Until this proposal becomes policy through widespread consensus or a poll (yes, I know that m:Polls are evil), I think it is premature for candidates to be nominating themselves. Thanks. I think I've replied to most objections, could you point me in the right direction to the ones you think still need further discussion? Talrias (t | e | c) 23:25, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Personally, I still have significant questions about this policy that I will bring up at an appropriate time on the talk page. That's not the point, though. The point is that this is a proposed policy — it has not come to consensus yet, and anyone can propose a change. To act on something like this is policy (i.e. like this is open for requests) is extremely premature, in my opinion. Not only have the technical capabilities for this not been developed (short of the JavaScript code available), but the community has not come to a consensus to make this a policy or an active requests page. In fact, I personally think that this request should be removed sometime soon — nothing can occur if and when it concludes, given that the technical abilities aren't available yet and that developers/bureaucrats would be highly unlikely to do anything with a request made on a proposal that has not reached policy level yet. If Aranda56 or any other user wishes to gain the rollback function, they should do so after the proposal becomes policy, not before. In the meantime, we do have the JavaScript that I'd be happy to link to on request. Thanks! Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk | WS 21:55, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Oppose for exactly the same reasons as Flcelloguy. Nothing personal, and anyway, even if this passed, no developer would listen to it until this becomes policy. Blackcap | talk 23:08, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Oppose. I don't see the point in this vote because it's not policy. This isn't anything against the particular candidate, by the way. SlimVirgin (talk) 00:03, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Comments:

My support above was in no way intended to suggest that this was policy, or that it's currently feasible to actually grant such rights. All I'm saying is, if such an ability were available, I'd support Aranda being allowed to have it. Friday (talk) 23:23, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Per Friday I can't get monobook in my labtop so I cant get the other rollback button avalible out there so this is more of a test and wait until consious is formed to use it --JAranda | watz sup 23:31, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
You know, I'd really like to see Aranda get this. He's a good bloke—ethusiastic—and if he isn't quite ready for adminship yet, he's still a good counter-vandalism WPn. I'm a bit surprised that monobook doesn't work in some laptops—why?—but I'm sure a javascript thingy can be written for the skin he uses? Aranda, have you spoken to User:Sam Hocevar? encephalon 23:57, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I imagine it would be possible, yes, but the javascript rollback is a poor substitute for the admin-style rollback. The javascript rollback should be a stop-gap measure, and nothing more. Talrias (t | e | c) 00:02, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
The ability to assign rollback rights was switched off in July, so there's little point voting for something can't happen until the feature becomes available and the bugs in that feature are fixed. Angela. 01:17, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
