Melville Library at Stony Brook University celebrates Open Access Week 2016! New and experienced Wikipedians are invited to join us for the Open Access Editathon taking place Monday, October 24, 2016, 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm at Melville Library in Stony Brook, New York. This event seeks to increase awareness of open access among Wikipedia contributors and to increase familiarity of Wikipedia editing among open access enthusiasts.

Event information[edit]

Please bring a laptop with you!

  • Bring your laptop, power cord and ideas for entries that need updating or creation. We'll also have a few laptops on hand for participants to use during the live event.

We'll have a selection of print materials and sources on hand at the event.

  • We're going to get copies of some printed reference materials to have on hand at the event for participants to use during the live event.

Getting started[edit]

  1. If you do not have one already, create a Wikipedia account
  2. While logged into your Wikipedia account, please register as a participant in this event
  3. If you like, take the Wikipedia Adventure tutorial to tour Wikipedia
  4. Identify a reliable source which is interesting
  5. Add information from that source to a Wikipedia article and cite your source
