The result of the discussion was delete. Long-standing practice to substitute single-use templates onto their respective articles. plicit 23:50, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Single-article content. Subst into HSL and HSV and delete. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:21, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose As far as I can tell there is no rule against single-use templates (cf. WP:TMP and WP:TFD#REASONS), and they can be convenient (and should be used more often in Wikipedia). The purpose of this particular template is to remove a giant block of opaque markup from the article and put it somewhere easier to maintain. This reduces the burden on anyone editing the page: they don’t have to look at the markup or worry about it; likewise, editors who want to adjust this table don’t have to worry about bothering editors of the main article text. Running around deleting every single-use template you can find for that reason alone when they are otherwise just sitting there working the way they have for many years is useless make-work (for yourself and others) and a waste of your time Jonesey95. –jacobolus (t) 17:25, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • substitute and delete, better to keep the table in the article. Frietjes (talk) 22:57, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Why do you feel this way? Are you personally maintaining this article? (Have you ever edited it a single time? Ever even read it?) It seems incredibly disingenuous for people who have zero to do with the article to delete templates that help its maintenance without bothering anyone else. This particular template doesn’t violate anything at WP:TMP and meets none of the criteria at WP:TFD#REASONS. To be frank, I would argue that the “template for deletion” process is completely broken if it doesn’t involve consensus primarily among the editors directly working on the article(s) where the template is used. (This is a completely different situation from WP:AFD where there are questions about notability that concern all editors or WP:FFD where there are concerns about copyright.) As long as no policies are being violated, random bystanders’ opinions should frankly count for approximately nothing. And even for editors on a page, there should be some effort at building consensus in the spirit of WP:STYLERET rather than just clobbering things and creating useless busywork for other editors. –jacobolus (t) 00:41, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Per the template guidelines at WP:TG, Templates should not normally be used to store article text. That is the deletion rationale. Perhaps my use of the phrase "single-article content" was too vague. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:21, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This is not “article text”. There is no prose involved. It is a numerical table consisting entirely of illegible markup and numerical data. You should think of this table as a “figure”, something comparable to an illustrative diagram or photograph (those never have their data included inline in articles). –jacobolus (t) 18:21, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment – commenters here don’t seem to understand that deletion discussion are not a vote and this is not a majoritarian election, but instead a discussion in which we are trying to come to consensus. One or more of you need to make some kind of argument and respond to opposing comments. As this discussion stands there are several clear arguments for keeping the template and no arguments whatsoever for deletion, so the current outcome cannot possibly be other than maintaining the template. None of the people commenting here have any apparent interest or editing history with the template or the article it is used on. If you want to delete this type of template you should probably start some kind of broader community discussion about changes to official community policies, but you’d better start by coming up with some kind of reasoning or explanation. –jacobolus (t) 18:07, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If one of you ends up abusively deleting this template on the basis of this discussion as it stands so far, it will be strong evidence that the WP:TFD process is substantially broken, and should be severely curtailed or scrapped, and the editors involved advised to find some more productive activity. -jacobolus (t) 18:11, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Single-article content with no template parameters. Subst into List of Major League Baseball progressive career hits leaders and delete. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:21, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No problem with transferring the content and deleting the templates; I created the article in 2005 - and apparently the templates as well, though I don't recall that. (Perhaps it has something to do with the size of such features in main articles at the time...) Other contributors have made modest revisions since then, all fine.
