The goddamn COVID-19 pandemic is still out of the list. Instead, people want to read about what's distracting them (movies\shows on streaming services and the reopening theaters, sports), those who left this world halted by disease, and the reminders of a tragedy.

1 Mulan (2020 film) 1,383,212 One of the movies that would've hit theaters in the first semester if not for the pandemic has become available on Disney+ for a hefty $30 dollar premium (and also theaters in some countries without the service). The story of the Chinese girl who takes her father's place in the army got a more serious approach, supposedly closer to the source material - though I bet Mulan's wire fu and the invading army having a witch are both original additions, as much as the funny characters and musical numbers that made the cartoon so beloved. Hence why audiences were not as forgiving of the movie as reviewers (specially in China, in spite of this remake of their folk tale trying to cater to them...).
2 September 11 attacks 1,357,498 Next year, the terrorist attack that really started the 21st century (and prompts anti-American nationalistic people to, each year, downplay it by comparison with other tragedies, including another that also happened on 9/11) will have happened two decades ago. Man, are we old.
3 Tenet (film) 1,168,269 Christopher Nolan returned with another complicated concept - something about time manipulation and preventing a war - executed with flashy visuals, and even made it hit theaters in spite of most being closed by the pandemic. Even with that hindrance (specially when many people don't want to leave their homes), it already made its $200 million budget in the box office, and got positive reviews, although with criticism for a confusing plot that was not helped by drowning dialogue under noise.
4 Diana Rigg 1,141,276 Dame Diana Rigg died at 82 after a long and storied great career, highlighted by marrying James Bond and dying for it, being a super spy herself, and reigning as Queen of Thorns.
5 The Boys (2019 TV series) 973,513 Instead of a season all at once, the return of the jerk superheroes at Prime Video had three episodes followed by weekly installments - so every week viewers can return to see Antony Starr's Homelander and Aya Cash's (pictured) Stormfront be horrible people and wish painful deaths on them.
6 Dune (2020 film) 794,940 Denis Villeneuve had good results with his approach on a beloved sci-fi film from the 1980s, so him taking instead a reviled sci-fi film from the 1980s with a beloved source material (#9) might also work, if the good reaction to the first trailer of this movie shows anything.

8 Cobra Kai 776,530 Netflix took this previously YouTube Premium-exclusive series continuing on the story of The Karate Kid, now focusing on the antagonist dojo that gives the title.
9 Dune (novel) 728,725 In 1965, Frank Herbert wrote this sci-fi novel centered around a planet that houses an addictive substance and giant worms, that eventually spawned a franchise that continued to add books until 2017. The first attempt at adapting it went wrong, but #6 keeps fans hopeful.
10 Naomi Osaka 658,268 Wimbledon was cancelled by the COVID-19, but tennis still managed to return with the 2020 US Open. This California-born Japanese player won the female tournament, two years after her first triumph at Flushing Meadows.
11 I'm Thinking of Ending Things (film) 624,974 Two new Netflix releases, a book adaptation by the madman responsible for Being John Malkovich et. al, and a French coming-of-age comedy-drama criticizing the hypersexualization of pre-teens.

13 Chadwick Boseman 593,146 Our previous #1, an acclaimed actor who died too soon. Many fans opted to homage him by quoting Boseman's best-known character in Captain America: Civil War:
14 Rhea Chakraborty 571,721 Bollywood has been providing some off-screen drama lately. First, the actress who was already a victim of trial by media after being accused of causing the suicide of ex Sushant Singh Rajput was arrested on alleged drug offenses. Then, another thespian engaged in a war of words against the local right-wing party, who even raided her office.

16 Victoria Azarenka 533,080 #10's title came at the expense of this Belarusian player, who still seeks her third Grand Slam championship after two in the Australian Open.
17 The 1619 Project 514,794 In the latest controversy by the Tweeter-in-Chief, Trump said that if California is really putting this project Pulitzer-winning project by The New York Times Magazine, that took the 400th anniversary of the arrival of enslaved Africans to examine the consequences of slavery and the contributions of black Americans, on the public school curriculum, he'll cut their funding.
18 Raised by Wolves (American TV series) 490,566 From a different streaming service, HBO Max, and executive producer Ridley Scott (who even directed two episodes) comes this sci-fi show about androids and the reminders of mankind on Kepler-22b.
19 QAnon 431,063 The only conspiracy that is pro-government.
20 William Zabka 431,037 While Zabka's career after being crane kicked in the face didn't take off - at most, he produced an Academy Award-nominated short - he has now returned to the role of Johnny Lawrence in #8.
21 Casualties of the September 11 attacks 410,345 #2 had 2,977 deaths, and also 19 murder-suicides by hijackers and more than 6,000 injuries.
22 Robert F. Kennedy Jr. 402,826 His father was a Senator, his uncle was President... and in spite of all this great legacy before him, RFK Jr. is on the news for making the world worse, being anti-vaccination and pro-COVID-19 idiocy, down to speaking in a partially violent demonstration in Berlin calling for an end to anti-Corona restrictions.
23 Ralph Macchio 401,124 Daniel LaRusso remains his best-known role (to the point Macchio just had to return in #8), but Macchio has kept working steadily in both film (My Cousin Vinny, Hitchcock) and TV (Ugly Betty, The Deuce).
24 Liu Yifei 393,385 #1's star, an actress, singer and model who has become a big name in China... even if she's considered unexpressive, basically a female Keanu Reeves. Controversial statements by her have also brought the wrong attention to the movie.
25 Bob Woodward 383,353 One of the world's most famous investigative journalists is gathering attention in anticipation to his second book on the Trump administation, Rage.
