Montana State University is one of only 108 institutions - out of 4,600 - designated as "very high research activity" by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of teaching. This means that MSU is among the top 2% of institutions nationwide in research, which translates into significant opportunities for research, scholarship and creative work.

Overview of library resources[edit]

The MSU Library's mission is to facilitate student and faculty success by providing access to information and knowledge. It supports the University’s commitment to teaching and research through its information resources (most of which are electronic), research assistance to students and faculty, and by providing technology-rich learning and study spaces.

Mike Cline (talk · contribs) was a Visiting Scholar at Montana State University in 2014-15, focusing on historical and environmental topics, especially those relevant to Montana.

Highlights
  • Brought Montana Vigilantes to Good Article status, about vigilantism in response to a robberies and murders in the Idaho Territory (later Montana) in the mid-late 1800s.
  • Created several new articles, including Megan Boyd, a historically significant, award-winning British fly tyer, and Montana Arctic grayling.
  • Improved the article for explorer, engineer and officer William F. Raynolds to become a Featured Article.
