About Rollins College[edit]

Rollins College is a coeducational liberal arts college in historic and scenic Winter Park, Florida, on the shores of Lake Virginia. Founded in 1885, it is the state's oldest college. It is the Princeton Review's Most Beautiful College Campus and consistently ranks as one of Florida's best schools. U.S. News & World Report named Rollins the top regional university in the South for 10 of the past 11 years.

About the Department of Archives and Special Collections[edit]

At Rollins, The Department of Archives and Special Collections works to acquire, preserve, and make accessible unique and rare materials documenting the history of Rollins College and Central Florida.

Overview of library resources[edit]

The Rollins College Olin Library provides access to well over 100 academic databases and tens of thousands of ebooks. Its Archives and Special Collections holdings (both physical and digital) include a sizable rare book collection dedicated to a popular "History of the Book Course" still taught at Rollins; a substantial collection of historic photos illustrating late 19th and early 20th century Central Florida settlement, tourism, agriculture, and development; and a substantial literary collection dedicated to many Florida authors including Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings and Zora Neale Hurston. In addition, one of its notable literary-oriented special collections is funded by an endowment dedicated to actively acquiring scholarly publications and artifacts about the lives and literature of Walt Whitman and his friend William Sloane Kennedy.
