How to edit[edit]

You'll want to start by creating a Wikipedia account, if you don't have one already. Do this here.

Tutorials for the basics[edit]

  • There are helpful set-by-step instructions here. Don't worry about the source editor tutorial - the visual editor is the easiest way to start editing!
  • There are also great training modules for the basics here on Wikipedia's Outreach Dashboard.
  • The Wiki Show on YouTube has a series of videos on Wikipedia basics.

Talk pages[edit]

Talk pages are spaces for Wikipedia editors to collaborate on editing. Every article has its own talk page. You can find out more about talk pages and how to use them here.

Sources & citations[edit]

Information should be added to Wikipedia in your own words and the source cited with reliable secondary sources. Wikipedia is very discerning when it comes to the quality of sources cited. Reports from major scientific organisations or international bodies, textbooks and review articles in scientific journals are all suitable. WikiProject Climate Change also has a list of recommeded sources.

This PDF shows you how to add a citation.

Images[edit]

Want to add your own images to Wikipedia? Start by uploading them to Wikimedia Commons. You can then add this image, or choose from other images on Commons, to add to a Wikipedia article.

Here's a YouTube video of how to do this. This PDF also explains everything.

Remember, all media uploaded to Commons must be licensed under a Creative Commons license (specifically CC-BY4.0), meaning that the image not copywrited and is free to use.
