Instructions
Requesting a review

To request an A-Class review of an article:

  1. Add A-Class=current to the {{WPGUNS}} project banner at the top of the article's talk page and save the page. See the project banner instructions for more details on the exact syntax.
  2. Once the page is saved, click on the "currently undergoing" link that appears in the project banner. This will create a new page on which to discuss the review of the article.
  3. Place === [[Name of nominated article]] === at the top.
  4. Under the heading created above, compose a short essay explaining your reason for nominating the article. Remember to sign your comments by using four tildes (~~~~).
  5. Add a link to the newly created A-Class review page to the top of the list of A-Class review requests below.
Commenting

Project members are heavily encouraged to participate in the review process, especially if they have specific knowledge of the topic in question. When reviewing the article one should keep the criteria for featured articles in mind when supporting or opposing a nomination. However, remember that unlike actual featured articles, A-Class articles are not expected to fully meet all of the criteria. When opposing a nomination, a reviewer should have substantive issues with the article. Objections over relatively minor issues of writing style or formatting should be avoided at this stage as the article is expected to require a bit more work. A comprehensive, accurate, well-sourced, and decently-written article should qualify for A-Class status even if it could use some further copyediting.

Closing and archiving

Reviews will be closed by a project coordinator after seven days have elapsed. An article will generally be promoted to A-Class if (a) it has garnered at least three endorsements from uninvolved editors, and (b) there are no substantive objections indicative of a major flaw in the article.

To close a review, coordinator(s) should:

  1. Move (do not copy) the existing A-Class review subpage to an archive subpage (e.g. [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Firearms/A-Class review/Name of nominated article/Name of archive]]). The existing review page will become a redirect to the archive.
  2. Add {{subst:archive top}} and {{subst:archive bottom}} to the top and bottom of the review subpage, respectively.
  3. Change the A-Class=current in the {{WPGUNS}} project banner at the top of the article's talk page to either A-Class=pass (if the nomination is successful) or A-Class=fail (if it is not).
  4. Remove the link to the review page from the list below and place a link on A-Class review archive page.
Subsequent reviews

To request subsequent A-Class reviews (second, third, forth, etc.), simply follow the directions above for requesting a new peer review. The difference will be that instead of creating a new review page, you will edit the existing redirect to the archive into a new review request. New A-Class reviews should not be requested until a project coordinator has archived an existing review.

Place links to new requests below this line. Newest requests should be listed first.
