From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The following category tags may be added at the bottom of articles in which the particular category makes sense.

Note: It is completely unnecessary to manually add these categories if you use the WPMIXInfobox in an article, since it automatically categorizes articles based on the selected attributes. The Infobox is easy to use, and is the preferred way to categorize articles within this WikiProject's scope.

Mixed drink type categories[edit]

Tag drinks by the primary types of alcohol contained in the cocktail by volume. Alcohol comprising 25% or less of the total volume should not be tagged unless the alcohol is part of the drink's name, imparts a strong flavor to the drink, is very commonly substituted for the primary alcohol (and that is mentioned within the article), or is otherwise significant. Place all these tags together at or near the bottom of the article.

•
• Beer mixes are drinks consisting primarily of beer (porters, stouts, pilsners, etc.) mixed with other ingredients, which may include distilled alcohol. The distinction between a beer mix and a cocktail with beer is the relative amounts of the various alcohols. In a beer mix, beer is greatest amount of alcohol by volume.
•
• Cocktails with beer are drinks consisting primarily of distilled alcohols (vodka, gin, rum, etc.) into which beer (porters, stouts, pilsners, etc.) is mixed. The distinction between a cocktail with beer and a beer mix is the relative amounts of the various alcohols. In a cocktail with beer, beer is secondary in amount by volume compared to a distilled alcohol.
•
•
•
• Cocktails with less common spirits are cocktails where the primary alcohol in the drink does not have a separate category (e.g., cachaça, moonshine, pisco, schnapps, etc.).
•
•
•
•
•
•
• Cocktails with wine... are drinks consisting primarily of distilled alcohols (vodka, gin, rum, etc.) into which wine (including port, Champagne, and other sparkling wines) is mixed. The distinction between a cocktail with wine... and a wine mix or spritzer is the relative amounts of the various alcohols. In cocktails with wine..., the wine product is secondary in amount by volume compared to a distilled alcohol.
•
• Fortified wines are distinguished from spirits made from wine. While both have increased alcohol content, spirits are the result of a process of distillation; while fortified wines have spirits added to them. Fortified wines generally have an alcohol content between that of wines and spirits.
•
• Wine mixes are drinks consisting primarily of wine (including port, Champagne, and other sparkling wines) mixed with other ingredients, which may include other alcohol. The distinction between wine mixes and punches and cocktails with wine... is the relative amounts of the various alcohols. In cocktails with wine..., some type of distilled alcohol (vodka, gin, rum, etc.) comprises the greatest amount of alcohol by volume in the drink; whereas with wine mixes and punches, the wine is predominant.

Presentation method categories[edit]

Place appropriate tags together with other category tags at or near the bottom of the article.

•
• Both edible (olives, onions, etc.) and inedible (paper umbrellas, etc.) ones.
•
• This category is for beverages (usually cocktails) where the alcohol is specifically described as being ignited prior to consumption.
• (formerly Shots)
• This category is for shots of distilled beverages and mixed drinks (cocktails, beer mixes, wine mixes, and non-alcoholic) commonly served in shot glasses or shooters.
•
• Use with mixed drinks that do not fit neatly into other categories, especially drinks that are commonly prepared either with or without alcohol. Eggnog is a perfect example. Some cocktails, such as Piña Coladas and Daquris, may be tagged with alcohol (Cocktails with rum), non-alcohol (Non-alcoholic mixed drinks), and mixed drinks tags since the articles discuss both variations.

Non-alcoholic categories[edit]
