Overview[edit]
Our role is to explore all aspects of games. There are already many projects and taskforces that already examine different areas in games in finer detail. For example, there have been many different versions of the Monopoly board game but what makes a board game? What is the first known board game? It's these sorts of questions that fall within the scope of this project.
Before creating a new article, check if an article already exists. Identifying and tagging games articles is an important task. Articles that detail important moments in the history of games (developments/releases/etc that changed the way we look at games) should be identified, discussed and supported by our project. If an article can be better supported by another project, for example, WikiProject Video Games, then tag it accordingly. The other project can then choose to support the article or remove their project tag. There will be times when an article may fall within the scope of multiple projects. Do not remove any project tags other than our tag.
The following guidelines provide guidance for the creation and support of games related articles.
Style[edit]
Maintain a neutral tone and avoid technical terms unless needed. Ensure that all technical terms are explained clearly.
Photos[edit]
All games articles should have at least one photo which adds value to the article. If there is a project/taskforce managing the article, consult with members of the relevant team before adding or removing photos. This should be done on the talk page of the relevant article and the talk page of the project/taskforce managing the article.
Sources[edit]
All sources should be properly formatted using the relevant citation template. If you are new to the project or haven't done much referencing, please familiarise yourself with the citation templates. Sources must be reliable and verifiable or not used. As with all Wikipedia articles, original research is to be strictly avoided.
