Washington State Route 531[edit]

I am requesting peer-reviewing for this article because this article is already one of the best articles at WP:WASH and could be a good GA after more improvements. I don't know what kinds, so this is the place that I am requesting the help of expert editors who have worked on GA articles, A-class articles, and FA articles. Here's what I suggest:

  • The lead could use some expansion, probably; see WP:LEAD for suggestions.
  • Only has 6 references. Probably needs more.
  • Do use the maint parameter on {{infobox road}}.
  • The first time you mention WSDOT in the prose (which will probably be in the lead), you should spell out the name, followed by the acronym, and use the acronym thereafter. Example: In 1999, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) did xyz action. The following year, WSDOT issued a press release admitting that they had made a mistake, and instructed their employees to hit themselves in the head with a traffic cone as penance...
  • Perhaps a more zoomed-out map showing the road in relation to the entire state of Washington (a la the map on Oklahoma State Highway 74) should be included. At the very least county lines need to be added to give a frame of reference for those not familiar with western Washington. (see map on Oklahoma State Highway 110 for another method.)
  • Check WP:MOS to see if superscript ordinals (78th) are permitted.
  • Use slashes only for concurrencies. Slashes are ambiguous, and in the case of disjunction (the SR-531 and I-5 interchange), you should use an en dash (–). WP:MOSDASH has details. (Note this also applies to county lines, "McClain–Garvin county line", not "McClain/Garvin county line".)
  • "Depending on what point you are at along the route, SR 531 has numerous names.": Second person is typically not used in encyclopedic articles. I would probably reword as SR 531 has various names at different points along the route or similar.
  • "At the time, very little travelers used the road." You must be under three feet tall to use SR-531? :) I think you mean "very few travelers".
  • "the 2-laned road": should be "two-lane", spelled out. Also, note that "two-lane" is an adjective modifying "road", so "two-laned" (which I do believe counts as a verb) is incorrect.
  • "a large economic growth occured": "a" should probably be removed. "A large growth" typically refers to a tumor or something. Also, occurred is the proper spelling.
  • "In the later half of the 1990's, the stretch from I-5 east to just west of 43rd Avenue NE was widened from two to five lanes and stop signs were replaced with traffic lights at the intersection with Smokey Point Boulevard.": This sentence is probably way too long and needs to be split up. Suggest placing a period after "lanes".
  • Not sure Spring in "In Spring of 2007" should be capitalized.
  • "Kids" is a bit colloquial when not describing small goats. Use children instead.
  • Junction list concerns:
    • The junction list includes a lot of non-highways. Are these roads really major enough to include in a list of major junctions? Most jctlists omit all junctions to
    • Consider using the {{jcttop}}/{{jctint}}/{{jctbtm}} system of templates for your junction list (unless WP:WASH recommends otherwise). This promotes standardization across states for junction lists, which currently do not have a set standard (WP:ELG only applies to freeway exit lists).
    • Control cities are typically omitted from major junctions lists for non-freeway routes.

Other than these concerns, the article has a wealth of good information. I encourage you to continue along the GA track, as this would be a good candidate once these issues have been ironed out. You may also want to try using WP:PR to get recommendations from non-roads editors, or request a copyedit from Wikipedia:WikiProject League of Copyeditors to catch any grammar issues I may have missed. —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 18:40, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for all the comments, but...

I don't know about WASH practices, but I think the Auxiliary Route line is in the right place. I know {{infobox road}} has a spur_of parameter for that information that puts it lower. Also, I don't think the shield for I-5 should be shown like that . Imzadi1979 (talk) 21:51, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will try to improve the article using your suggestions. Again, Thanks. ComputerGuy890100Talk to meWhat I've done to help Wikipedia 00:40, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
