Suggested new articles[edit]

If you believe there should be an article related to the HCI WikiProject that doesn't currently exist, list it below.

  1. dialogicity - Ie, "the opportunity to juxtapose different points of view so that each may illumine the other," (Kaptelinin & Nardi, 2006, Acting with Technology), citing (Mannheim 1936; Bakhtin 1981; Miettinen 1999). It may be interesting to create this page in the context of Activity Theory (the focus of the Kaptelinin & Nardi book where it was used) and position it in comparison to the existing article on Dialogue (if enough distinctions exist) Md gilbert (talk)
  2. resources model - Suggested by Wright, Fields, & Harrison (2000), the Resources Model is a specialized extension of Distributed Cognition theory that is specific to HCI and "provide[s] a link among devices, representations, and actions that is not well articulated in the DC literature." This page would be interesting because DC is already so well-known in the field, people would probably benefit well from understanding a model that is specific to HCI. Marge6914 (talk)
  3. Interactive tabletops and surfaces This is currently a broken link on the Human Computer Interaction Wikipedia page. I'm surprised that there isn't a page for it, because I've heard of research and products in this field, outside of the classroom. I think this is an important option when designing technology and I think it's used often enough that there may be people already searching for information on this topic. 4. Transnational HCI - This is an interesting phenomenon regarding the design and research processes that take place when the maker and user are in different geographical locales (and perhaps different cultures, socioeconomic classes, etc.). As posited by Shklovski, Vertesi, & Lindtner (2014), "transnational HCI is a contemporary condition of the design and use of technological systems." Since location disparities between maker and user are a common occurrence, I think this would be an interesting page to consider creating. JLand13 (talk) 13:39, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  5. External cognition - there's a stub with some good basic information on this other wiki that could be used as a basis for a Wikipedia article. For more information see also [1][2]. - J-Mo Talk to Me Email Me 01:14, 12 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  6. Production editing - Describes the editorial role in preparing text/visual materials and involves other skills such as project management. Would be a good inclusion as the topic explains the process on managing and producing manuals and manuscripts for users.[3] Tannermp (talk) 01:07, 13 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  7. Intelligent user interaction - This is a new human computer interaction way that is different from the fully-automated user interactions. User has to put their insights into this interaction in order to reach a system optimization. This page should be included in HCI related articles.[1] Candice Juan (talk) 02:47, 13 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  8. User-driven healthcare - Edited by Rakesh Biswas (People's College of Medical Sciences, India), ""User-driven healthcare" aims at improved healthcare through clinical problem solving utilizing concerted experiential learning in conversations between multiple users and stakeholders, primarily patients, health professionals, and other actors in a care giving collaborative network across a Web interface." I think it is necessary to create this page because healthcare can be improved by collaborating the concept of HCI. The network between different users (patients) and web interfaces makes connections in the real world and can successfully improve the efficiency of healthcare somehow. Weariness (talk) 23:53, 13 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  9. Gaming rehabilitation - The development of games for the purpose of providing interactive rehabilitation programs for patients. A recent example is Microsoft's Kinect game for Stroke rehab - Microsoft Stroke Recovery with Kinect. Can relate to a sub-section of Digital healthcare, though it seems easy enough to find distinctions between the two. Pgrobison (talk)
  10. Block chain (transaction database) - The block chain is the digital ledger for all transactions on the bitcoin network. Many cryptocurrency systems are modeled off of this system and an article explaining the use and function of the block chain could be helpful for public understanding of bitcoin and other digital currencies. Current block chain article is the mechanical use. Benilsen (talk)
  11. Display designs - Although this is a section on the HCI page already, I believe that a page could be made for a more in-depth look at the principles of design and their relation to HCI. Sharkers (talk)
  12. Gesture modeling - This term helps define the gestural interface for HCI and directly relates to how to properly model hand gestures and be interpreted by the computer. Pnwadventure (talk)
  13. Authentic design - This is a modern design trend that focuses on the content of the design itself instead of stylistic decoration or any skeuomorphic design. This is a broader definition of the trendy "flat" style in user interface style. AnneZ(talk)
  14. Embodied interaction - This is a theory in the HCI domain that looks at the ability to interact "off-screen". Embodied Interaction looks at interacting with physical objects to have an effect on the digital world.
  15. Design personalization - Now that mobile technology is creating context aware computing. Information on personalization design will continue to grow in importance. A USER-CENTERED DESIGN APPROACH to Personalization - Joseph KramerDDS6619 (talk)
