Nominating yet another Air Marshal for A-Class review, this one however best-known as an engineer, as well as being a pilot and the service's first parachute instructor, and the longest-serving member of the RAAF Air Board. Any and all comments welcome, including suggestions before a possible FAC nom... Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 13:44, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Support This is yet another excellent article on an important RAAF figure. I do have some comments though:
- There are some very long sentences which should be broken up. The first sentences in the 'World War II' and 'Post-war career' sections, for example.
- Did he command 'a' Papuan Survey Flight or 'the' flight? I doubt that there would have been more than one, but could be wrong about this
- Can anything more be said about his role in World War II? Given that the RAAF went from being technically backwards in 1939 to successfully operating hundreds of very sophisticated aircraft in 1945 there seems to be scope (if not sources!) to expand this section.
- The sizes of the photos shouldn't be fixed Nick-D (talk) 04:55, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Well there has been a fair bit of discussion on this at the FAC and MOS talk pages, and consensus as I see it is that thumbs are not mandated where they provide little useful visual info and one is forced to click on them to see anything worthwhile. Perhaps as a test case, Tony increased the size of those in my current FAC article, John Lerew, and I haven't noticed a rush to reduce them again, though admittedly the FAC hasn't closed yet. There's also talk of increasing the default pic size, so I haven't gone round altering the size of pics in other articles I've worked on, but I think at the size they are in this article now we have a better chance of curtailing the necessity to click on them to get a decent image, which improves the reading experience... - Support No problems reported with external or disambig links. All images have alt text as per our new requirements. Outstanding article to read. Keep up the good work! TomStar81 (Talk) 05:18, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Support I believe this article meets the criteria. More good work, Ian. Well done. — AustralianRupert (talk) 07:26, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Support Comments - another excellent and interesting article. Just a few comments:
- Is there any particular reason why Wackett's service in the RAN is not included in the "Service/branch" section of the infobox? I think it merits inclusion as he did begin his military career in the RAN, and spent eight years in the service.
- Okay. I think we had the same question with Joe Hewitt and didn't bother with it then but, hey, why not? Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 10:14, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- The images in the article are excellent, but I do tend to think they are slightly to large. To me, they seem to over power the text a little due to their size. Would it be possible to tone them down slightly?
- "Graduating in 1918, he was commissioned in 1921 and posted to England for study." - Would it be possible to add the rank he was commissioned as? I presume it was as a sub-lieutenant?
- Is it known why he applied to join the RAAF?
- "chutes" is a tad colloquial, isn't it?
