More details

  • Who? Everyone willing to create or translate any of the key articles is welcome. If you want to join us please check the Join us! section.
  • When? Saturday 10th May 2014, from 10:00 to 20:00h (GMT+1).
  • Which articles? Please check this list.
  • Where? Everyone can participate from their home and we're working to set some real-life events so that wikimedians can meet and edit together. In Barcelona, wikimedians are welcome to participate in Fundació Joan Miró. In case you're interested in showing up in Barcelona please drop ESM a message.
  • How? In a near future, some texts about the artist and his oeuvre in multiple languages will be relicensed using OTRS authorisations and will be made available to participating wikimedians so that they will be able to create and enlarge the chosen articles without much difficulties regarding finding and using reliable sources.
  • Why? The contest is organized and led by Amical Wikimedia with the help of Barcelona's Fundació Joan Miró. We'd like to improve the presence and quality of the available knowledge about Joan Miró in Wikipedia. We're inspired in Miró's wish to facilitate access to his oeuvre to those interested.
  • Really, why are you doing this? During the summer of 2013, the state of articles related to Joan Miró in Wikipedia was analysed through an audit (in Catalan). It showed us that apart from Catalan and English speakers, Joan Miró and his oeuvre were quite appealing to Russian and Japanese speakers, as the number of articles and the visit statistics revealed. One of the main goals of the current wikiproject is to improve the quantity and quality of the information about the artist that is available in those versions of Wikipedia where more interest has been detected. This action will consist of an international event, which we have named Joan Miró Global Challenge. This proposal is inspired by the British Museum's Hoxne Challenge, which took place in 2010, and other similar editing events such as the Catalan culture challenge held in march-april 2014.
