Wikipedia:WikiProject Music of the United Kingdom

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welcome to the Music of the United Kingdom WikiProject, a collaboration area and group of editors dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of Music of the United Kingdom.

(For more information on WikiProjects, please see Wikipedia:WikiProject and the Guide to WikiProjects).

Goals
  • To make Wikipedia a leading and reliable information source on all aspects of music of the United Kingdom
  • To create a systematic structure/hierarchy of the articles about music in the UK such that each article is self-standing but full cross-referenced, with the minimum of duplication.
  • To ensure that there are appropriate and consistent redirect pages
  • To review all existing articles in this context
  • To encourage the creation of new articles on the topic.
Scope
  • All aspects of music in the United Kingdom including folk/traditional, 'classical' (i.e. composed), jazz and popular music. All of these articles should be contained within the Category:Music of the United Kingdom.

Guidelines[edit]

  • I suggest a first task could be to list all the presently existing categories that relate to the topic. that will give us some idea of what is already up and what might be missing; it would also intuitively suggest a structure for the project as a whole. I have started listing some out of the top of my head and found (surprisingly that some obvious ones like Category:English orchestras don't yet exist.

Gustav von Humpelschmumpel has started listing articles - we will need to get a list but that could get out of hand if we don't have the structure first (I speak with experience from having started the WP NHS project).

Probably the best thing to do is to put categories and articles on separate sub-pages behind an integrated front page (see e.g. Wikipedia:Wikiproject National Health Service) but I'm not quite sure how to do that - anyone have the expertise? --Smerus 19:08, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New articles[edit]

Please feel free to list your new Music of the United Kingdom-related articles here (newer articles at the top, please). Any new articles that have an interesting or unusual fact in them should be suggested for the Did you know? box on the Main Page.

  • Folk music of Ireland - I'm probably going to plunge into this within a couple of days, because the current "Music of Ireland" is generally considered to be poor, and the folk music part is the poorest part of it. Now completed.
  • Folk music of Scotland - should probably exist, along the lines of "Folk music of England" but I have no plans to create it
  • War song - I have a rough draft of this. Since Anti-war song exists, it seems only appropriate that the other side of the argument is presented, even if it is now historically discredited. Now completed.
  • Irish fiddling should probably exist, since Scottish fiddling exists, but I don't feel up to it. Ogg (talk) 20:40, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Pub session - I have totally re-written this article. Ogg (talk) 11:21, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
