List of Mega Man skills and attacks[edit]

Considering as an canidate for Featured list status. Constructive critisim and critiquing would be helpful. -ZeroTalk 17:02, 21 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think you'll like this, but: merge with List of Mega Man weapons. Pagrashtak 01:58, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You're absolutely correct. It's almost becoming baffling how you want me to merge these two, and I've already verified as to why this just won't do. Why are you continuouslly under the belief that these lists are one and same...? -ZeroTalk 10:09, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I just don't see why the Mega Buster and the Rolling Cutter can't be on the same page. Pagrashtak 19:31, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I answered this on my talkpage. The rolling cutter is an attack/technique. The Mega Buster is the actual weapon that serves as the respective catalyst. I've added links to the list in the Weapons article, so I fail to see your qualm. -ZeroTalk 20:57, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Because the weapons gained from Robot Masters are weapons and thus belong on the List of MM weapons. Here's a direct quote from the instruction manual of Mega Man 4: At Mega Man's command is a host of high-tech weapons including the miraculous Mega Buster! You can view your weapons box at any time by pressing the START button. Inside the weapons box you will see all the weapons, energy tanks and extra lives you have collected so far. Press the control pad in any direction to select the weapon you wish to activate and then press the A button. when [sic] you return to the action, Mega Man will be armed with that weapon. The manual refers to the Robot Master weapons as weapons several times, not as skills. That argument aside, even if you do draw a distinction, it's just plain better to have all Mega Man 4 weapons (or whatever you want to call them) together in one place. How is the reader better served by having to go back and forth between the two pages? If you want to split the lists up, it would be better to split off one page for the Classic series, one page for the Mega Man X series, etc. Pagrashtak 23:37, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Unbelievable. Would the reader be better served by featuring an entire page so long, it requires unnessecary srolling and repetivity...? Would the reader be better served by having an page saturated with attacks breaking up the format..? Does the suggestion of seperating the skills into seperate articles even make logical sense..? And the instruction booklet description of an weapon is paper thin at best. In the logical sense, yes, they are all weapons, in that an weapon is an means to attack another person, but taking common sense into consideration, its an moot point. The list is cited as Mega Man weaponry. Weaponry in wikipedia is cited as: Metaphorically, anything used to damage (even psychologically) can be referred to as a weapon. A weapon can be as simple as a club or as complex as an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). This is weaponry. Wereas an skill or technique is: Anything that can be done employing tools or algorithms, Hence forth, the Mega Buster would be the tool (weapon), and the rolling cutter the technique/skill. Merging all the data of these pages into one is simply too long and defeats the purpose of the definitions. -ZeroTalk 23:54, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm glad you agree that they're all weapons, but I think you missed my suggestion to break the pages up into Classic, X, etc. Pagrashtak 01:50, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I did not miss it. I just don't agree with it. They are all essentially the same thing- gained attacks used by the protaganists of the Mega Man series. Splitting up the pages makes no sense. - ZeroTalk02:42, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Does any else care to add any comments? So far it's just been Zero and me, just like the peer review for the List of MM weapons. Pagrashtak 22:55, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think both lists are way too big to even consider merging together. All else the same, I'd rename this one "List of Mega Man copied abilities" or similar, and then split it into the "classic" and "X" series. That having been said:
  • The red is a little hard on the eyes. Stick to pastels (colors very close to white); the blue "Mega Man" header is about the darkest a background should be.
  • A sample of some weird phrasing, the MM5 Crystal Eye: "The user fires a large artificial crystal ball which can separate into 3 smaller Eyes and they ricochet if it strikes a wall or obstacle." It runs on. Use multiple, shorter sentences. And don't use "Eyes" since I think of white orbs with pupils and trailing nerve endings.
  • While I'm at it, replace all instances of "The user" with "Mega Man" or "X" or "Zero" as necessary. Even with Power Fighters weapons, although I'm sure someone will disagree with me.
Hope that helps a little, but it just needs a copyedit in general. Nifboy 02:49, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good. I'll get to work on that in a bit. In the meantime, you might fancy participating in the conversation on the List of Mega Man weapons talkpage as well. -ZeroTalk 02:52, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
As noted on said talk page, an alternative suggestion would be "List of minor Mega Man weapons" (inspired by any number of "List of minor characters" pages, per WP:FICT). Nifboy 07:26, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The only thing I noticed is that the cross-references are not linked. That is not generally a good documentation strategy, and this list basically constitutes technical documentation. If you say in the table, "See blahblah", that should be linked to at least the correct segment of the list. Aguerriero 17:04, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No worries there. We need to decide on the naming convention for this article though, as this factor might contribute to failing in the FA promotion. -ZeroTalk 17:13, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
