Terra Branford[edit]

I want this to become a good article in line with the rest of the main FF characters. Sir Crazyswordsman 15:22, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Have you checked out Squall Leonhart? That's quite a good, er, good article. -- Steel 15:39, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, but what does that have to do with Terra? Squall has a lot of stuff going for him Terra does't, mainly appearances outside the series. Sir Crazyswordsman 15:48, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I was just trying to give an example of a related article you could get ideas from. Squall has three paragraphs on character development. Terra has two lines. Also, that abilities section smacks of strategy guide/instruction manual. -- Steel 15:55, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Find something on character design for me. Also, I changed the part relating to her abilities to make it sound more story-driven (as her abilities are paramount to the story and not just the game). Sir Crazyswordsman 16:04, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not much into these trivia sections for all the characters. Is there a way to include their birthdays in the In-Universe section of the character infobox, and simply integrate other facts into other sections? ~ Hibana 20:06, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The infobox was imposed on us by people beyond our control. Sir Crazyswordsman 23:42, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm concerned by the length of the biography section. At this point, it's not much more than a recap of the story of Final Fantasy VI from Terra's perspective. And, frankly, there are better places to detail that story, so it seems rather redundant. Trim it by a paragraph or two and tighten the prose, and it would flow a great deal better. More out-of-universe information would be greatly appreciated, sources permitting. As it currently stands, it's so unbalanced towards in-universe material, it reads more like an entry on a fansite than an encyclopedia article. On the other hand, referencing is generally very good, though there are a few things that should probably be cited, like the descriptive data (age, the first listed height, birthday, etc.) in the infobox and elsewhere. I echo Hibana's comments about not particularly liking the trivia section (if it's trivial, then surely it's not encyclopedic?). Most of the points there can probably be moved into the introduction without much effort. The only thing I'm not sure would fit there is the birthday, but I'm not really sure what that particular information adds to the article, anyway. – Sean Daugherty (talk) 21:45, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Since when is Terra's appearance in SoE not encyclopedic? Sir Crazyswordsman 23:39, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
All things you mentioned (age etc) aren't referenced in the other GAs we have. Sir Crazyswordsman 23:42, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Also, what do you mean by "out-of-universe" info? Sir Crazyswordsman 23:43, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Stuff along the lines of what inspired Amano to design her the way he did, why the programmers changed her hair color from blond to green for her sprite (probably just to make her look different from Celes, but an actual statement from them to that effect would be valuable information), how much influence Amano had on the final design, if he was asked to alter her initial design and change something, etc. Ryu Kaze 00:08, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
First of all, one of the problems is that we've got conflicting data for at least one item (height). Since one of these figures is cited, and the other isn't, this is bound to raise some questions. And, more importantly, if we're going to reference something, we need to cite it. If other articles fail to cite their sources, that's a problem with those articles, really. But this is Wikipedia policy and good practice, particularly since this information doesn't, to my knowledge, come from the game itself. Please try not to be so defensive, CS: I'm only trying to help, here. – Sean Daugherty (talk) 01:36, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Where did I say it wasn't? Look again: I was referring solely to the information about her birthday. The rest of it should be prosified and moved into the introduction, or somewhere a little less "catch-all" than a trivia section. Anything that is trivial is, by definition, unimportant. And anything unimportant can hardly be called encyclopedic. If it's important (and most of the info in question is, don't get me wrong) it doesn't belong in a section entitled "trivia." It should be integrated into the bulk of the article. Since the introduction is a little on the sparse side, at the moment, that seems like the ideal place for it. – Sean Daugherty (talk) 01:36, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Unfortunately, I can't do much more than echo other comments that have been provided here: more out-of-universe information (and perspective) would undoubtedly work wonders for the article, though it would likely be difficult information to acquire and source (but would be all the more special for it); losing the Trivia section or integrating it into other sections of the article (Ted Woolsey's change of her name from "Tina" to "Terra", for instance, could go in the design section, as could her being named after the Roman goddess of earth if you can get a reference for it); the "Abilities" section comes off a little strongly as gameguide info, but that might be more because the article's content is limited; story-related references are good, though, and images are fine, as well as licensed adequately. I can't really offer anything more than this at the moment, though. Sorry, CS. Ryu Kaze 00:15, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • I'm not getting rid of the Abilities section. Instead, I'm going to reword it as to show the importance of said abilities to the game. Sir Crazyswordsman 15:59, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
      • Alright, scratch that. The abilities section is wiped out. I've also looked through Google to find info on Terra's design, and all I found was that interview I cited before. I could use a little help with this. Sir Crazyswordsman 16:07, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that her hair was kept blonde in the Final Fantasy VI: The Interactive CG Game video. Unfortunately, there's very little information on the video except that Lostlevels.org article, much less why those three characters were chosen for it. ~ Hibana 16:26, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can't we cite that? It may or may not be reliable (WP:RS can be relative sometimes). But it would be better than nothing methinks. Sir Crazyswordsman 00:28, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Er, why is this a separate article at all? There are two sentences of real-world information, followed by eight paragraphs describing the plot of Final Fantasy VI and three paragraphs covering a portion of the gameplay of FFVI. Why are we recapping FFVI's plot and gameplay in multiple articles, instead of covering that info in Final Fantasy VI? - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 18:43, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Other issues:

  1. There are two images in this article, but neither of them has more than a passing resemblence to the SNES appearance, the appearance most readers are going to be familiar with.
  2. The infobox image doesn't have a caption, or a fair-use rationale for this article.
  3. Capitalization of "esper" is inconsistent; is it esper or Esper?
  4. Why is the Secret of Evermore cameo in the intro? It's hardly one of the most important facts.
  5. What's the justification for Category:Fictional messiahs?
  6. "Returners" links to List of Final Fantasy VI characters; it probably needs an anchor link.
  7. Who's Ted Woolsey? The name sounds familiar, but I can't place it.

That's all I can spot for now. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 19:18, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
