This course introduces students to learning about the contributions of Asian American Pacific Islander women to American culture, including politics, education, popular culture, the arts, and social media. In addition, we learn about events and issues that impact Asian American Pacific Islander Women, including: U.S. immigration laws/history and U.S. involvement in wars in Asia; U.S. film and other popular cultural representations of Asian women; Stereotypes and tropes of Asian women such as Dragon Lady, Tiger Mom, Submissive/passive/mute, Massage parlor worker/prostitute; Perpetual Foreigner/Immigrant; Model Minority; Invisibility of Asian American Pacific Islander women's mental health issues; LGBTQI+ representation/involvement;
