This Norco College English 1B is a critical thinking course that asks students to a selected number of fiction texts while researching and writing critical essays about those texts. This semester, the course will focus on Samanta Schweblin's Mouthful of Birds, Daniel Alarcón's City of Clowns, Anonymous' The Poem of El Cid, Carmen Maria Machado's In the Dream House, and Gabriel García Márquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude. In addition to writing critical essays in class, students will spend several weeks learning how to be Wikipedia contributors and eventually editing and/or creating new content based on the assigned reading and research in class.
