This is an introductory course to how media and culture work in our society. The course introduces students to different forms of media and how production, content and circulation influence us as media consumers. Students will also learn important concepts in media studies and be able to critically evaluate media in all its forms to understand how media play significant role in different aspects of our social and political sphere. Some of the topics covered in this course are media convergence, media industries (films, television, video games, journalism, etc.), the impact of technology on media industries among many others. Students complete the course feeling more confident to understand the non-media parameters that shape media contents and how they can be more media literate when engaging with contents on different media platforms.
