This course describes the applications, challenges, and opportunities in the field of robotics at small scale (micro/nano robotics). Significant progress in micro/nanoscale science and technology in the last three decades have created demand for ingenious alternatives to solve healthcare, manufacturing, and environmental sensing/remediation problems. Micro/nano robotics have emerged as a new field that will interact with the small world and will contribute to the solutions of such problems. Students at this course will navigate the state of the art of the field and will understand the implication of different physical phenomena at small scales. Will understand the main differences between nano and micro robotics, will assess different mechanisms of locomotion and interaction with the environment, and will consider the most common fabrication strategies.
