This course explores how public history projects, such as museum exhibits, oral histories, digital archives, and online spaces document lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and other (LGBTQ+) communities in the US and the UK. We will discuss how historical and contemporary LGBTQ+ stories have been collected, interpreted, and shared using both analog and digital media. Our Wikipedia assignment will be part of a campus wide engagement with the Art+Feminism campaign, which seeks to improve coverage of cis and transgender women, non-binary folks, feminism and the arts on Wikipedia.
