Week 11

Course meetings
Monday, 27 March 2017   |   Wednesday, 29 March 2017
Assignment - More thorough research and planning

Develop a more thorough outline of the desired outcome of your project, starting to look into details of what kind of content you want to add and where, as well as which particular pages you will be editing (or adding, as the case may be).  You don't need to develop all the content, but you should start to have a good idea of what to include.

Once you've finalized your topic for the project, make sure to assign it to yourself on the Students tab above.

Week 12

Course meetings
Monday, 3 April 2017   |   Wednesday, 5 April 2017
In class - Class discussion of proposal

Meet in class to discuss your proposal and ideas with the rest of the class.  You should first indicate the general content area(s) you plan to address, and then as much detail about the particular pages that will be affected.  Feel free to use the overhead projector.

Offer constructive comments to your classmates, including raising questions and offering suggestions.  Identify areas that you each are working on that might intersect, and where two or more of you might discuss how to integrate the material.

At the end of the discussion, decide what the best use of time would be for the 4/5 class.   If there are questions that arose during the discussion, a useful course of action would be to research the questions and discuss them on 4/5.  Or, you might decide that the class time on 4/5 would be best used by more research/writing.  In any case, you should all agree on what you will be doing on 4/5, and what homework to give yourselves in preparation.

By the end of the day on 4/3 you should each independently submit a summary of the class discussion from your perspective, as well as the plan decided for 4/5.  I will make a link on Blackboard.

Week 15

Course meetings
Monday, 24 April 2017   |   Wednesday, 26 April 2017
Milestones

We will make sure all pages are finalized and are ready for publication, and we will launch from class!

If you're editing an existing article:

  • NEVER copy and paste your draft of an article over the entire article. Instead, edit small sections at a time.
  • Copy your edits into the article. Make many small edits, saving each time, and leaving an edit summary. Never replace more than one to two sentences without saving!
  • Be sure to copy text from your sandbox while the sandbox page is in 'Edit' or 'Edit source' mode. This ensures that the formatting is transferred correctly.

Once it's live
Do additional research and writing to make further improvements to your article, based on suggestions and your own critique.

  • Read Editing Wikipedia page 12 to see how to create links from your article to others, and from other articles to your own. Try to link to 3–5 articles, and link to your article from 2–3 other articles.
  • Read Editing Wikipedia page 15 to review a final check-list before completing your assignment.
  • Remember to contact your Content Expert at any time if you need further help!

During part of the final exam period, we will see if our additions/revisions have garnered any comments, or have been edited, etc.
